  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Hoffman, I have the same issue with my "first-run" mount. Erik has acknowledged this issue (assuming it's the same problem), and it is supposed to be fixed in the ones shipping now. Is yours an early mount or a replacement?

I ordered in 2007 but I don't know that it would be considered an early mount. Was yours replaced?

Thanks

Just to clarify... the existing units will talk to Birgers, and upgrades are possible using the radio connection. The change is needed to allow software upgrade over a cable rather than the radio. Our PC/MAC applications upgrade all devices attached to the mount, but the radio on the mount has a single inbound connection. This connection is already being used by the MAC/PC.

I ordered 200 Imperos, so I get to have a feature or two exactly the way I want it.

Hi Erik

Can you ask Curt to make sure these "Birger-ised" Imperos are clearly identifiable in some way so that they can't possibly be mixed up with non-Birgerised ones. I can see myself and others buying and reselling Imperos for controlling Inclinos in the future having problems if there's a difference in function but no obvious outer identification.

Thanks.
Eric

If you received yours more than a month or two ago, I think it's considered an "early" mount. Erik will be replacing those with updated versions that are slightly thinner for better collimation and supposedly resolve this electronic issue. I've still got the early mount; been waiting for the Imperos to be ready to trade in. In the meantime it's basically been like a 'dumb' Canon mount that I can't use for super wide angle shots. :-/

Erik, please correct me if I've got wrong info here or if you want to elaborate on the problem. I know you explained it earlier, but can't remember and don't have time to go back and look.

I am trying to program our simple controller for birger (mainly for use in underwater housing.) does anyone out there know the letter code command for start/stop.

is it the SG command and if which port? i.e. specifically what do we send to start and what do we send to stop (the red just needs a momentary contact closure but not sure how birger implements that.)

Upgraded mounts have a place to plug in the i/cable (and a color code for this cable on the front of the camera adapter).

I don't have the manual in front of me, but from memory, RA0 is hooked up to the GPin on the camera, through a transistor (inverting). You need to set it as an output/high, and then as an output/low or an input. This pulse will start recording, and a second pulse will stop it. RA1 should be set as an input to watch the tally. Stuart, what is the pulse width needed to trigger the camera?

Canon lens & Imperior focus control ... image bounce ?

Canon lens & Imperior focus control ... image bounce ?

For those out there with beta Imperio controls (and Birger mount) ... when coming to a focus point and then changing direction / rotation of the Imperio, is there an image 'bounce' visible ? Many AF DSLR lenses will bounce the image when manually operating the focus barrel this way and wondered if this also happens when the motors are driving the change in focus direction (via the Imperio); ie: is the 'bounce' due to loose gearing of the manual control or other ???

Cheers

PS : Erik, how is library 19 (20 now? ) coming along ?

I've seen the bounce on some of my Nikon lenses but the Canon lenses with Impero appear to be rock solid. I've only had the Impero a week and haven't had the chance to use it on anything real yet.

The L lenses all appear to be really well built all around. I'm pretty blown away by how smooth and precise the focusing has been. The 85mm F/1.8 can be rough on a big rack focus but works fine on smaller focus changes.

Thanks & encouraging. Anybody else care to comment ? Jay Kelley ?

I will test as soon as the Birger Mac app will talk to the mount ... unfortunately my Bluetooth connection has not worked for a while ;-(

Quick question

Quick question

posted this a few days ago on VF thread with no answer - anyone here care to enlighten me please?

I've not been following this thread as religiously as some of you guys, so wonder if I've missed something here - why have the technical issues with Origo and Inclino affected the production/delivery of Impero?

best
joe

If anyone is just itching to try out the Birger Canon mount I may rent mine out. If your interested PM me because I won't be back on here for a few days.

But I don't have the Imperio.

I just have the mount, no glass. All my glass is Nikon without manual controls.

I will have an Impero announcement either this afternoon, or on monday. I will be out of the office friday through sunday.

Please let it be today--Good news or Bad news, why carry that weight through the weekend? :)

Good news--lets us chear all weekend long. Bad news--lets us gripe while you're gone.

That being said--please let it be good news. The Imperio looks amazing in the video--the only way it would look better is if it were my hands controling it.

Reposting unanswered question to Curt from VF Impero thread:

"Unless you're making all Imperos the same can you make sure "Birger-ised" Imperos are clearly identifiable in some way so that they can't possibly be mixed up with non-Birgerised ones. I can see myself and other Birger owners buying and reselling Imperos for controlling Inclinos in the future having problems if there's a difference in function but no obvious outer identification."

I'm referring to the wireless update modification requested by Erik. Any information Erik?

Thanks!
Eric

I just got off the phone with Curt, and 100 Imperos will be in Boston friday morning. I am out on Friday. We took over software development on the Impero a couple of days ago. Ken will wrap the bootloader some time early next week. All Imperos shipping after early next week (whether from Birger or ViewFactor) will all have the same bootloader, which will enable an application from ViewFactor or Birger to be running on the unit. So whether it is a ViewFactor or a Birger Impero is completely up to the customer.

On Monday Amy will start the emails coming.

Curt wanted me to make sure his motor customer understood that the software development on the Imperos had been taking a back seat to the manufacturing issues on the motors...
