  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just got my updated Birger yesterday. Reinstalled it and was ready to collimate using your video. However I'm not getting any lens info. The i-data cable is connected properly and the cable appears to be in perfect order. Wondering if I have missed something obvious?

Tried both the 50mm f1.4 and 16-35 f2.8 LII.
The good thing is the latter now focuses to eternity.

As you've already used this before, assume you've already checked the S4/i option is ticked in the Remote menu of the camera, and the Lens Data option is ticked in another menu of the camera.

I'm having an issue where the lens info appears and disappears, seemingly at random. (See other Birger Library thread).

Try first switching the S4i option from the menus off and then back on and then wait for couple seconds. This is what one has to do after firmware update. If this does not help, then unplug completely the i-cable connector and put it back. Several people including myself had to do this to get the lens data on the screen.

Hey Pal... First I would point to the menus.. There's about three settings you need in there in order to get the info on the screen.. Be sure to watch section where I go through the menus and make sure you have them all set (The specific settings escape me right now)

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Guys. Yes, I am well aware on Larui's gender. I will try switching the S4i option off and on. Thanks for the tip.

If it doesn't work I can talk to Erik, in person, in a couple days.

Hello Frank,

If you also aren't getting power to the aperture control buttons read this post by Thom Steinhoff from a couple of weeks ago (copied below). I think on my mount it was the middle screw hole of the three that was the mounting position. Otherwise the electronic connections aren't made.

Something to watch out for
I had the birger working on the bench perfectly before I did the installation.

After the installation, I realized that it shipped with the front part already installed so the columation markings were hidden. I took them off, looked at them, went "Hmmm" and put it back on.

I fired it up and it didn't work at all--no power. Scratched my head a few times and called Erik.

Erik suggested that when I put the outer-ring back on I may have chosen the wrong holes and asked if all of the holes lined up--The didn't.

Apparently, there are 12 holes around the ring that could fit but only 4 will work. You should put it back so they line up--if you don't--no power.

Took it off, put it back on properly and it worked perfectly.

Just a little tip to put in the back of your mind for if you are ever in a situation that after/during columation things stop working you'll think to yourself "oh, yeah, didn't that guy post something about alignment..."

Erik, Curt--you guys rock. I love the Mount and can't wait for the Imperio--especially after seeing Jay's video. Oh, and Jay, You rock, too--thanks for your efforts.

We will process upgrades, and orders received prior to 3pm EST on Monday 20 April, before leaving for NAB. Anything received after this point will not ship out until Tuesday 28 April at the earliest. On the Tokina the markings are off, the lens shows 0.75m but the camera is 1m away. All of my Canon L Zooms 16-35mm, 24-70mm and the 70-200mm f/2.8 do hold focus and the focus distances on these lenses match the actual shooting distance. Same is true for the L primes I tested (24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2, 135mm 1.2, 200mm 2.8).
