  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

April shipping update

I hope that based on this update Brent and Jarred provided, the Regular (Scarlet W Package Orders on Dec 10th and after) can be delivered by 1st week of May at the latest. That would be a very very good news.

Praying here... Today... On my birthday! :)

I know these type of questions may be exhausted ad nauseam, but I see a lot of questions on delivery from RAVEN customers switching over. I have no clue how many cameras you guys produce in a batch that is ready for shipping, but I'd like to be grounded in a ballpark in when to start even getting excited that my number will be called.

I am just a good ol' brain only (with the 3 OLPFs) order, direct Scarlet-W customer (not RAVEN, not Scarlet Dragon) that ordered on January 1st of this year.

I know I'm looking at post NAB, but am I looking at summer time? Summer time meaning June? Or before hand?

Ballpark as I know there are a TON of variables in play. Just want an idea for us first timers into RED rather than these switchers and previous RED customers. The time taken to answer this question would be so much appreciated and give me some kind of sense rather than no effing clue. Thank you!

In regard to what "caught up" means, Jarred said it himself in the OP:

"it's probably best for me to just lay out what the accessories are in back-order and what the "caught up " date is for them. Meaning, when current orders for these accessories will be allocated"

So the "caught up" date seems to be the "allocation" date.

I must have gotten lucky because I ordered the Mg Sidekick and Base Expander a week after my deposit for my brain and got those pieces in a couple weeks ago. I'm happy that once they call my number, I'll have everything to flip the switch on and roll some oh so lovely 5K r3d magic from that camera. :-)

Just need that brain! lol

Hey Nic the feelings are mutal here. I purchase Raven Jetpack in Jan 2016 and was trying to make since of this update in regards to my allocation just like you I was hoping before June due to a project in LA/OAKLAND but I'm hoping for the best.

Brent mentioned in another thread that there are just too many variables and too many orders for them to give specific estimates. Certainly we'd all like to know when our cameras will be at our door, but I think patience will be our best ally until that happens.

The good news is that it seems like the backlog will start to clear over the next week or so and the floodgates will really open wide!

I 2nd that.

yeah its almost the same concept just in reverse. The easiest way for people to relate to is if you look at computer monitors and bad pixels. if you have a 1080p monitor, the chance of having a bad pixel is 1/4 than if you have a 4k monitor. Move that to 8k, and the chance of having a dead pixel goes to 16x as likely to have a bad pixel. Its not exactly like that.. but gives you an idea.

Can't you remap bad pixels?

Can't you remap bad pixels?

If you remap a pixel, how would you go about interpolating into your Bayer array? If it's not in the same spot as the dead pixel, that data belongs elsewhere in the image. It's one of the factors that make sensors so expensive, especially combined with being so big.

Can't you remap bad pixels?

Complicated subject, but one thing to understand specifically in regards to Mysterium-X and Dragon sensor technology is that there are fairly rigorous quality control measures to ensure "quality pixels". Which is rather important to high resolution motion picture cameras.

just talked to my red rep, got excited when he called me, but it was for things i ordered, like a reader that need to be picked up, but he said it's correct, caught up as jarred said means caught up on their end on the production line, not caught up with fulfilling orderes. so there you go, april 8th is the soonest we might see another package allocation.

I get that packages won't be allocated until next week but what about brain only orders?

brains should be, just not packages.
JD: it is the case, pkgs wont be allocated until the accessory is "caught up" in the production line.
well who knows they could allocate a day early if they know they will have it or things go well or a day late (which might be that monday the 11th) that's just my opinion, but definitely not before according to my rep unless a miracle happens on the production line.
this is for the v-lock i/o pkg. but call your rep and see what they say.

My rep said there's no pickup at NAB option, but they could ship the camera to my hotel there.
Ah, that's a nice solution. I didn't think there would ever be an NAB pickup option, that place is completely bonkers, it would be a nightmare trying to verify and fulfill a $15k+ order, haha. But good thinking getting it shipped to the hotel! I still have my fingers crossed that it will show up before then. If it doesn't, I'm only going to be at NAB the 19-21, so I think I'd survive!

Hey Jarred,
So just to be sure -- Scarlet W will be out for most people before Raven? What are the chances of Raven orders being shipped before NAB? Thanks.
