  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another taste...

Is there any way to integrate some connectivity "without" cables. Like a viewfinder that "slots" in for connection.

I am looking at all the places in the renders where a cable might go and I am seeing a beautiful camera obscured by a sea of spaghetti.

Looks nice though!

There will be wires for power, sound, lights, EVF/LCD monitors, etc., but I think everything else about DSMC Modules will connect without cables?

Can the order of the modules change position?

I'm not so hot on a couple of really skinny media modules right next to a place where a bunch of cables have to be connected and sorted. And seriously, we need indicator lights on the media modules, especially the Dual CF module so we can tell which card is mounted and running. I can only assume the use case for this dual module is change overs.

Every professional film camera manufacturer has realized that cable i/o should be oriented on axis with the length of the camera. This makes the wires point the right way and makes them easier to sort. Have a look at a Arri 416, 235 or Aaton Penelope and you'll see what I mean.

The pre-November Epic renders were getting a lot closer to something that was ergonomic. PLEASE bring back that breakout box.

Alternatively, please open up your module connection standard to third party accessory developers.

I know we have a lot of months to go before NAB and Red is able to turn on a dime but sometimes the new concepts forget the refinements of the previous thinking on the subject.

Worry, worry, worry... :-)

You can put the modules in any order you want. And you can move them off camera. Plus, there are a ton of things we haven't shown yet.

Try and relax this holiday season. Sleep tight. RED is awake.

... of EPIC X. The system is growing.

Own a RED ONE. Upgrade to EPIC X. Seems like the right thing to do. :-)

Jim

Jim,

Yes and no...i mean, some will be tempted (like me) to go the FF35 route because of the higher dynamic range of the Monstro sensor over the Mysterium X.

will bee any led light on CF module to indicate which CF is working?

What if they're both working at the same time?

What'st this? Modules located off camera? Hello? :w00t:

Doesn't this medium make things sound terse. ;-)

I know you and Matt want to do the right thing. Wouldn't be posting if I didn't care or wasn't planning on buying the new gear.

Looking forward to seeing these improvements in shipping cameras.

Sure - why not... There will obviously be some kind of interface connector on each module and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to put a cable there instead... There might be some restrictions as to the maximum length of them, but other than that it should be a no-brainer.

What I'm very interested in seeing is the actual upgrade price going from the RED ONE to the Epic X. There's going to be so much more we're going to have to buy.

Unless, of course, it's wireless. In which case, that would be something else altogether. Oh, the possibilities...

If all the modules can be powered by the battery module and have wireless connectivity, this would be too good. I would still like wires for power and data with wireless capability also. :shifty:

That either means wireless or cabled. That's a ridiculous amount of information to be going from the brain to the I/O module if it's wireless!

Great to hear this. I know it has been brought up here a few times about moving them off camera.

p.s. Love the RED colored media modules. Another way to easily identify RED on a production from far away. ;-)

heh heh heh...you read my mind...

Do U mean Raid O :) lighting both of led lights!

I was thinking RAID...

I agree. I was just a bit surprised about it. It's the first time this has been confirmed. Kinda funny that it seems people are responding rather nonchalantly as if it were assumed, when this is actually something pretty huge. We've known for a while that the REDmote can be detached and located anywhere, but now that various modules can be located off-camera -- presubably cabled, I doubt wireless is going to give the bandwidth needed for most of the newer REDCODE formats.

Red Mag looks like it has a removable cartridge. NICE!!!

At first I thought it was strange to be in the middle as how would you replace it. Then, I saw the black section looking like a handle. To me, that means it stays locked in place, but you remove the mag to replace it!

Can't wait!

Now, is ALL THAT (except the lens) in the Epic X Upgrade from Red one?!!!
