  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing the RED TOUCH 7" @IBC14

But the size and height of the 7inch may affect the balancing on the letus helix no?

I'd say that totally depends on how you set things up. To me, the weight seems more of an issue but, yes, the smaller profile of the 5" might keep things more tightly centered around the camera body. I am sure they will both work well with Helix. I do like the HD resolution the 7". A little hard to swallow the price but... who knows?

Guys, I tried it @ IBC...it's GREAT!

The res is amazing...it's retina like!

You can't see the pixels, so initially it gives the false impression of low res, then your eyes adapt to the real res and BOOM ! ! !

How's the real world brightness? I read a report from IBC that said it was bright enough to use in high ambient situations outdoors.

Yeah the 7" Touch sure is a think of beauty to be seen and touched in person... :)

Very slick and slim design, ergonomics and flattened out borders of the Screen are definitely to make for a better fitting for any accessories and Screen shades, but I must say that I still liked and continue to like, or should I say love the original design as well... :)

As for brightness, while I didn't compared in the ambient it was in with a 5" or 9" I can say it was very bright, and the image very crisp, but I did love very much the new hinge and base design, super slick and well tough out.

Can't wait for mine to arrive... But I also admit it will be hard to let go of the HUGE and Beautiful 9" Image Real Estate...

I'd love to see a side by side photo from IBC of the 5" and 7". Wish I was there!

here you go both at full brightness...

Thanks Mikael!

I wonder how many exposure problems come from people closing down due to the blown out image on the 5" without any of the stop lights actually being lit up (closing down because you are exposing by monitor). Would be an interesting study ;)

A lot of people do that Matt. I'm looking forward to the 7".

Exactly my thinking in seeing all the underexposed Dragon footage that shows up here. Maybe this new monitor will cut down on those errors and allow those who judge by monitor to open up their lenses and let in more light.

Thanks Mikael!

Very interesting. Does the 9" do the same. I have only used the 9" so cannot compare to the 5" really.
The 9" is awesome but maybe a bit heavy and more resolution is always, always welcome!

Ha. Definitely made that mistake my first time shooting with Epic. Dark room, bright monitor, moving fast. Definitely had some mad underexposure. Opposite issue outside the next day - could barely see the monitor (even with a hoodman), was worried everything was super-dark - ended up overexposing by 1-1.5 stops.

Yup. This is really interesting as to bringing exposure up practically for the DOP…. :)

Would've been interesting to see both at "mid" position.

G

Will try to do that and send a pict...
