  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing the RED TOUCH 7" @IBC14

Is the flip/mirror an in monitor thing? In that case, would there ever be a flip/mirror for the SDI/HDMI outputs?
This is something I can really use. Both when doing poor man's low mode on Steadicam, or using the Ronin in overslung mode, would love to not have the monitors in the village having to go upside down. I really don't need to flip the recording, only the image out of the outputs, please!

I wonder about the brightness. It says 350 cd/m2 in the specs and at the same time it says 'improved color accuracy and brightness for operation in high ambient light' and 'bright enough for operation in high ambient light'

But I measured the 5" at about 1000 cd/m2 so I would think the new 7" is a lot less bright than the 5", no? I hope I'm wrong about this but the video on red.com doesn't look very promising.

The DP7 OLED (Same panels as the Q7) is only 250 nits and it is plenty bright... 350 is even better... TV Logics new 5.5" 1080p monitor is 400 nits as is the Atomos Shogun 4K recorder.

OLED appears effectively brighter because the black levels are darker. This screen is not OLED.

AWESOME... SUPER EXCITED....

I know this isn't OLED, but it should be bright enough. I don't think RED would put out an unusable monitor with inadequate brightness.

The rMBP screen is said to be around 250-300 nits max and I've never said I wish the monitor was brighter..

I didn't see auto sensing/dimming, in the list of attributes. Doesn't mean its not there though. Would like to know that as well.

Thank you very much

Everything is great, but the price increase over the 5" was a bit too much for me at the moment, need wait a little. Other than that It's exactly what people wanted, I'm not sure that other companies bring changes this fast, especially when talking hardware. Impressive response.

Uhm, ever since Jarred got the first prototype, it has not left his camera. Definitely "usable" ; )
