  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Thanks for the reply Brent. So should I just leave it and wait for a confirmation or refresh and do it again to get an email?

I wish I had a clear answer. Our web team is pulling their hair out working with the host. Apparantly, this RAVEN thing is a big deal *sarcasm*.

I would place a secod attempt and then you can always cancel a duplicate order, as needed.

Can we have a word from Red about that Canon fixed mount? Jarred and Brent, why keeping quiet about that? A lot of people will not buy this new Raven because of that, me included..

Jarred said its a Canon fixed mount... many days a go on here dude. Trust me... they are not keeping quiet about that. Jarred definitely spilled the beans way before the announcement. If you don't like the fact that its a Canon mount... O' well... many other RED camera options out there.

Perhaps now it should be highlighted in the specs break down that is a Canon fixed mount for all the new people looking at the official release thread.

I hit refresh and it sent a confirmation email! Didn't input anything again. Weird..lol. Good luck with the slew of orders!

I tried multiple times until I got a confirmation page, hopefully I don't get charged each time, hahah. I got my confirmation email and finally got the success confirmation page on red. Excited for my second Red camera, Raven, woohoo.

I am from Europe. Can I place deposit on Raven's microsite in dollars or I have to wait for eu.red.com?

Microsite does not take orders directly. It redirects to red.com sites. So, you would be placing on eu.red.com either way. Heck, REL should be in the office soon, no?

heh heh maybe he is just doing a really good job of pretending that I didn't let out any of that info early :)

You did a great job with this new little beast but,
Why releasing a Red camera that does not even accept Red lenses (RPP)?
Raven is a Cinema Camera, Canon lenses are great but for stills, are you planning to release a Pl mounted Raven ? Or M43 (so it can be adapted to almost everything)?
I don't see myself shooting Canon, i discussed that with some friends and we all agree with that..

Just looking at the specs again.

Am I wrong or does it blow away the original RED ONE for what? 1/3 the price? Am I out to lunch?

This camera ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of users. Pretty amazing really. I'm still digesting this, but it is great to see this from RED.

The raven will be the mortar and the Weapon will be the bricks.

So cool.

I ordered through the microsite... but that was seconds after it came online, have a confirmation. (So this should work I think)

Sorry for double question post, but it is clear that Raven is a fixed mount camera, right now it's canon mount. The questing is - will additional mount bodies become available, mainly PL?

After an hour of trying i got it! Since I plan on making a full switch from Sony to RED. Does anyone know if I can do socal leasing when the times comes to pay the full amount so i can order all the necessary accessories as well? Just wanted to get my deposit in asap.

Thank you Jarred & the RED team, i'm so happy I can finally join the family and do it right!

We should be completely back online... We like tripled capacity.

I will make sure no deposits are invoiced (ie, we charge you full amount) before you have had a chance to sync up with your rep.

That's easy... its a low budget camera with mass produced sensibilities. The target market (indies) probably doesn't have a huge investment in PL mounted lenses that cost more than the camera. Also I differ with you on Canon lenses being just for stills... there are cinema lenses available in EF mount like Zeiss Compact Primes.

Yes. I did exactly that earlier today on RAVEN. Check out Foolcontrol. It is one of the best things that will ever happen to your RED camera... Focus and Iris control ( with Canon lenses) and all camera settings from something that is already in your pocket :)

Thanks man :-)

BTW for those interested, Nick Fury initiated a new REDuser special Group Buy few hours ago...
get foolcontrol OS X and or iOS with a discount and get a chance to win a free foolcat license too.
(quantities are limited for this "one time deal")

For the price range, EF is the right lens mount. Tons of lenses, good quality, EF-S Apsc crop factor

Can EF-S lenses be mounted onto the Raven though? They have a slightly different mount. If mounted on a 5d /1d body they hit the mirror. However, EF mount APS-C lenses like tokina and sigmas mount fine as they are true EF mounts with image circles for APSC crop. I just want to know what lenses are fully supported so I can start thinking about a kit.
