  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Announcing RED RAVEN

Would I be correct in saying the Rokinon 16mm T2.2 (APS-C Coverage) Canon EF Mount lens is the fastest option for wides for the Raven at the moment? Also looking at Tokina 11-16 2.8 as its wider, But no de-clicked aperture and slower.

Can someone tell me where the lemo hole is for the monitor. Im looking at the product pictures and do not see it. Thanks! Im planning on using a 5 touch with it and want to make sure I don't need an expander to use it.

Well done Red.. Can anyone estimate when you Raven will be available to purchase out right? I mean if I don't pre-order do you think Id be able to buy in March or most likely December 2016 after all the preorders have been delivered? Whatwas the wait like when scarlet MX was released?

Tokina makes a de-clicked version of the 11-16mm.

Here's an enormous round of applause to Jim, Jarred, Brent, Graeme and the entire RED family for accomplishing the impossible -- yet again. Jim remains a bad ass with a heart of gold; the kind of guy that might invite you to his home, and then walk out on a meeting filled with notables to shake your hand. :) I'm exceedingly happy to see this gentleman succeed.

Jarred and Brent are just as awesome fielding a million tasks, never sleeping and a contending with a string of verbose customers. Hahaha. And the list of considerate, talented and genuine personalities extends across all the less public departments I have been fortunate to meet. RED seems to have a real knack for hiring brilliant, and passionate individuals.

Overall, RED stands as a testament to the "little guys" and "underdogs." Do what you want, do it to the very best of your ability, and do not compromise in the process. Life is too fleeting for anything less.

Like others here, I left the ostensible security of a network to pursue a dream. Aside from providing awesome instruments, RED contributed to the courage needed to get out and attempt to make a difference. We now have the ability to tell diverse stories from unique perspectives, with the pliability to craft an image that bolsters narrative. So many projects are captured using RED, and yet, each project can demonstrate its own unique look.

The latest advancement RAVEN is sure to grant even more indie artists the ability to produce, and irrespective of what you mount it to, filmmakers have the latitude to eke out beautiful results.

I could not be more proud of you guys. Thank you for everything.

Continued blessings,

Eryc
RED Emissary

Thanks man, means alot.

All depends on pre-orders. So, just too early to tell!

I might have missed this info but does the EF mount have the same positive locking system as other red EF mounts? Cheers

Yes, it appears to have the twist locking collar.

Just a point, without any intention of putting down the Raven: it's only 4K if you shoot full frame. If you use a narrower window, and I'm mainly thinking mainly of anamorphic, it's not 4K anymore. So don't go thinking that the Scarlet Dragon is somehow redundant. Because it is not.

Sorry for double question post, but it is clear that Raven is a fixed mount camera, right now it's canon mount. The questing is - will additional mount bodies become available, mainly PL?
This seems likely.

The good side of the EF mount: heaps of cheap lenses on the used market, lots of third party units as well. Micro 4/3 makes more sense to me, but... the Raven is a winner, either way. And as others have said, don't forget Leica, Zeiss on the high end.

We shot this Dragon @ 4.5K on a 24mm Standard Prime (custom modded to EOS). Should give you a pretty good idea of what RAVEN looks/feels like...at a smidge under at 4K:

Very nice! Nicely lit, too, BTW. :-) If I can ask a quick question: did you have a light to the actor's left and a reflector to his right?

Thanks man, means alot.

+1 to that, Eryc. Glad you made that first step and never looked back.

So special to be part of these moments in time. I work with some of the most incredible people on earth. I cannot imagine another company where people are this dedicated to a vision like these folks are to the one Jim cooked up 10 years ago. I know I am honored to be in the trenches with each and every one of them.

And, seeing more and more people jumping on the RED crazy train makes all these long nights worth it and then some.

Oh, crap, my kids will be up in 4 hours. Time to get in that cat nap after all...

Looks great! gonna sell a ton of them.

I heard there is a gimbal coming designed specifically for the Raven.

Absolutely and good point for those that may be concerned about the strength of the EF mount.

Our EF mount isn't like EF mounts on other cameras ... the " sloppy EF mount" isn't an issue. .. Back with Epic we invented the double-EF lock that not only uses the EF bayonet lock, but also an additional rotation clamp that brings everything together... even good old Arri has recently borrowed the design and it works really well to keep the the lens rock solid, which you really need with the plethora of heavier EF glass that is now on the market. All the new big Zeiss Cinema Zooms come in EF mount, as well as the big badass Angenieux Optimo lenses , etc. etc.

Havte say Raven checks an incredible number of marks.
The prores option makes it a 20-fold more flexible camera, and I am glad RED with Weapon and Raven has re-focused on the user, more than the disruptiveness in itself.

If this can be pushed out the door fast enough, and it has a package with the "usual in/outs" (TC, XLR, SDI, HDMI), it can clean the table in a market that Canon invented with the C300
