For the love of mye Aaton wood grip hand carved by an old french man in the pyrenees...any thoughts on how to get this rig to trigger record/run an EPIC?

I modded it once at able cine, they put a "red" rocker style switch there and i got a lemo cable made that triggered the R1 with success and now I am hoping someone
can advise me as to what kind of cable I need to make so I can trigger the epic if this is even possible!

Also I need to replace the rosette so that it will be compatible with the RED rosette mounts so if there is any information on what size i am looking for that would be great.

This is an excelent grip if anyone has not used it, i originally used it on my Aaton A-minima...then my R1, soon my epic!

Cheers

C

Camalot by Vocas from Netherlands just announced Wooden handgrip (right hand) and now somebody should figure out how to add a lemo cable and button to make that trigger possible for Scarler/Epic.

I'm still trying to get someone to make this adapter for me! We made a test unit here at AbelCne but I need to get it into production. Soon I hope!

As far as the rosette goes, we can deliver you an ARRI rosette for that handgrip, and I believe someone is working on an adapter for RED-to-ARRI rosettes. Or you could buy a RED Dogbone for $75 and take one off there to see if it can be fited to your handle (bet it can). But I'm curious how you plan to then attach it to the camera. Don't you currently have a rod couple to attach that to lightweight 15mm rods? I should think that would still be the best solution, as you want it a little forward of the camera to help balance with the lens and to create a triangle from handgrip to elbow to shoulder.

The more wood handgrip options the better. I'm a big fan of these. In fact, there's another company in Germany making a set that I'm looking forward to checking out when they are ready, hopefully in the next month or so. Wood handgrips are expensive, but from what I understand, the reason is because the source materials are expensive.

And I agree with Mitch about the placement of the grips.

A solution that goes direct into the LEMO on the brain will cause you to lose timecode and genlock functionality. A better solution is to use the a BNC connector the RED's breakout cable.

If you're okay with skipping the grip and just want a remote trigger, we sell the Chocolate Bar: www.madlyfins.com/product.php?id_product=17

Thought about BNC Andy, might be the route I go.

@ Mitch, yeah I want to keep the 15mm rod system but an adaptor would be nice if I wanted to go direct to the body. Also, I am still (after months) waiting for the 15mm assault plate for my EPIC.

Like an Alpa had grip

Like an Alpa had grip

Red or any third party should make a wooden natural handgrip something that looks like for ALPA handgrip for ALPA 12 TC natural

because anyway Epic or Scarlet both look or remind a bit like an Alpa camera sort of boxes...

Love those walnut handles from aaton and would be very nice on a EPIC

Sadly as far as I understand it the GPI that you could use with a lemo 4 or with the BNC adapter to trgigger a camera start stop requires a powered signal (3 V) to work. The RED One lemo had power so it could provide the small voltage for a led/beeper and there was no need to have external batteries for a small start button...

Maybe we will have extra GPI with power on the pro I/O... But that's uncertain, so you might need to carve into the wood to install a small battery !

Envy.

There is a person in Toronto (Penny at PS) who promised me one if these but never came through.

I want!

I can also do the trigger.

but how will you get the volt battery in there... I guess function and style dows not go hand in hand. LoL

Couldn't you connect your handle to the Viewfactor Stealth Plate somehow? Obviously that doesn't solve your trigger dilemma, but it's a start.

Working on it ...

Connecting the handle is not so much an issue, I entertained the idea of making it tactical compatible with RED but as Mitch mentioned it comes with a nice pair of lightweight 15mm doodads thats work just fine...
Would be nice to have an option to mount on the stealth plate if I could get some matching rosette plates to bolt then I would be good to go. Abel have those?

Working on it ...

Awesome.

Not wood but cheap, strong and comfortable!

Not a bad idea Peter, I have some of these laying around...maybe with some nato parts I could make an outrigger.

Peter what battery is that?
