Several 7 were on display at recent trade shows across Europe.
They look very nice : thiner than the 5, square design with black on black front logo, with what looked like both a better tactile response and better latitude than the 5.
The resolution jump from 800 × 480 to 1920 x 1136 will certainly be super useful to frame and focus your shots.
Always felt the 9 was too big for my use but this one feels just right... I agree it is strange to phase out the 5 as it is still very useful for small setups, would even wish there was a 3 inch myself sometimes
here are a few picts (sorry iPhone images) with a some 7 inch screens... (sorry except the first one showing both 5 and 7 inch at full brightness, the other picts were not shot to specifically show the 7 inch in itself but could give you some indication as to it's look and size)
Thank you for that last picture Mikael. That's very informative in terms of a size comparison.
I've been considering really, really hard to get rid of my 5.0" LCD Touch for the 7.0". The 5.0" is super useful for travel and small setups, but the 7.0" might be the happy middle I'm looking for between the 9.0" and 5.0". The extra resolution is very welcomed over here.
One thing I think is interesting is Red has redesigned the hinge a bit. I've seen plenty of people pick their cameras up from the hinge on the 5.0" and 9.0", which I'm not totally sure it was designed to do. The 7.0" seems to be less "grabby". I'll have to take a look at one in LA to really do an A/B comparison and decide. Really curious about the flip implementation as well.
