7.0 touch screen

Not happy. They ditch the 5.0 for 1600$ and come out with a 7.0 for 3000 dam close to double the price . I can't find the tech specs on the 5.0 screen . Is the 7.0 monitor a 2k screen at least.

I like the 5 inche for crash and tumble. Thats not right? and being twice the price as well.

Several 7 were on display at recent trade shows across Europe.

They look very nice : thiner than the 5, square design with black on black front logo, with what looked like both a better tactile response and better latitude than the 5.
The resolution jump from 800 × 480 to 1920 x 1136 will certainly be super useful to frame and focus your shots.

Always felt the 9 was too big for my use but this one feels just right... I agree it is strange to phase out the 5 as it is still very useful for small setups, would even wish there was a 3 inch myself sometimes

The 7" looks great but it would be a big mistake if RED stops making the 5". (well, unless of course they manage to update it with a 1080 5")

Here is how it works with RED guys:
They order a large number (say 10,000) units from a contract manufacturer. They get a great deal due to the volume.
After that run is sold out they have a couple of choices:
They can reorder another 10,000 units and pay the same but : they may not sell another 10,000 because the market is near saturation.
OR:
they can order smaller quantity but the cost is higher so their profits will be down.
OR:
They can respec the product with better newer specs and order another 10,000 units because it is a new product and will sell much easier.
That is the best choice for the manufacturer however the R&D costs and the tooling costs and the higher component costs have to be absorbed by each and every unit. Hence the higher price.
Guys you were screaming for a 7" full HD touch screen for months-and RED delivered. They made their decision on the price and will deal with the consequences (lower sales)
You don't have to buy it and I'm sure, if the price is too high to swallow and the sales suffer they will adjust the price.
It's really up to you- vote with your wallet ;-)

It's not bad, but hardly worth 3000$ with its current specifications.
if Red opened up their display connection to third parties, their prices wouldn't even be half of what they are now. Same with SSDs

That may or may not be true

And is 100% at REDs discretion.
Nothing impossible in buying a sidewinder/sidehandle and a small HD monitor, if you prefer such a solution.
Loopthrough for EVF on SDI and all...
