But if they are including a Mini mag, one would suppose the would also include a place to put it?
One thing worries me though...
If this has the weapon body and will be eligible for upgrade to a next generation sensor after Dragon then what about us with an Epic Dragon? I mean, from what I gathered, the only way for us to get a next gen sensor is to upgrade to Weapon AND upgrade to the new sensor, which would cost as much as just buying a new camera. That's kind of a strange handling of the Dragon family if it happens.
It would mean that if we with an Epic Dragon would want to get new sensor tech, it would probably be through selling our Epic Dragon and getting a Raven, which in many aspects is a downgrade of our equipment, just to "stay in the game."
All things point to Epic Dragon being the end of the line, whatever has been said that it's "part of the Dragon family". In my opinion, if a next gen sensor is being developed, it should also be made avalible to Epic Dragon owners. It would be really strange if Raven owners continue on together with Weapon owners and Epic Dragon owners who don't own a castle and a bank would be left behind with an only option to downgrade to Raven.
Either that or whenever a new sensor is avalible, the weapon upgrade cost might be lower than it is now or put at a discount in order to push Epic Owners into weapon territory.
Personally I would be happy if Red released a Weapon upgrade that isn't carbon, doesn't have ProRes and is just a weapon and board upgrade of the current Epic in order to have it ready for a next gen sensor.
Non-exchangeable lens mount. Non exchangeable mag reader/writer = brain only.

$5950 for just the Brain.

Bad news about the EF mount: not as much compatibility as Sony E. Good news: lots of third party manufacturers make EF lenses, including Zeiss; also, you can adapt Leica R to EF easily (not so to Nikon F).
But who is to say that Raven cannot have other mounts in future? It's an excellent product already, and I think everyone agrees.
Where is the magic for the price? Brain only: 5950, screen: 1500, card: 850, minimag module: 1500, redstation: 200, redvolt module: 1150, one redvolt: 350. It's 11500$. And ready-to-shoot raven is sub-10000.
The Raven doesn't replace Scarlet, It's a new category in our line up. Raven is a younger, hungrier, more "spirited" member of the RED family with a bit of a chip on his shoulder ready to take on the entire sub-$10k market with images that you will be incredibly proud of.
it is a real Dragon sensor with real Dragon Pixels. So 20.48mm wide, a bit shy of Academy 35mm and APS-C. All your APS-C / S35 lenses should cover.
Here's a quick summary of what just happened with Jarred and his late night Raven info:
Raven is RED's new entry level digital cinema camera. It will be $5950 for just the camera Brain, release date unknown as of yet. However, that does include a fixed SSD Media Bay as well as the fixed Canon EF Mount. There hasn't been other news regarding other mounts just yet, but more info will likely spill out of Jarred's insomnia or during the official announcement on the 25th (wait was tonight the official announcement?). RED Raven features a 4K Dragon sensor with a width 20.48mm that is capable of up to 120fps 4K recording and is part of the "DSMC²" style of camera body family along with Weapon, which likely means Raven will be compatible with the same accessories.
A modest shooting package with 120GB MINI-MAGs, the new 4.7" LCD Touch, and battery solution can likely be had for under $10k.
