$5950 for just the Brain.

That is a tremendous price point. That's inviting a whole new world of shooters into the RED community for sure. Very impressive.

With a couple 120GB MINI-MAGs, the new Weapon 4.7" LCD Touch, and whichever battery solution the shooter chooses that's a very compelling system.

One thing worries me though...

If this has the weapon body and will be eligible for upgrade to a next generation sensor after Dragon then what about us with an Epic Dragon? I mean, from what I gathered, the only way for us to get a next gen sensor is to upgrade to Weapon AND upgrade to the new sensor, which would cost as much as just buying a new camera. That's kind of a strange handling of the Dragon family if it happens.
It would mean that if we with an Epic Dragon would want to get new sensor tech, it would probably be through selling our Epic Dragon and getting a Raven, which in many aspects is a downgrade of our equipment, just to "stay in the game."

All things point to Epic Dragon being the end of the line, whatever has been said that it's "part of the Dragon family". In my opinion, if a next gen sensor is being developed, it should also be made avalible to Epic Dragon owners. It would be really strange if Raven owners continue on together with Weapon owners and Epic Dragon owners who don't own a castle and a bank would be left behind with an only option to downgrade to Raven.

Either that or whenever a new sensor is avalible, the weapon upgrade cost might be lower than it is now or put at a discount in order to push Epic Owners into weapon territory.
Personally I would be happy if Red released a Weapon upgrade that isn't carbon, doesn't have ProRes and is just a weapon and board upgrade of the current Epic in order to have it ready for a next gen sensor.

This will stay on its own league and price point always.

Yep. I was hoping for this but not expecting it. This definitely puts it within reach for someone like me looking to move up from DSLRs. And at this price point it makes it hard to opt for something like an FS7 when you can get a Red for a few thousand more.

This is tremendous news. Now then. To figure out how to gather the funds for this.

I wouldn't worry. You've got an amazing camera and RED does the right thing. They have a history of it. I'm sure they have amazing firmware updates just waiting to be finished. New features when ready will be released. They know what they are doing.

please let us get in on the raven before everyone knows. There is going to be a big list and I want to be at the front if possible. Thanks.

Think the minimag module is already included in the brain?

There's some third party things that will work in place of RED accessories. Not nearly as well, but they can get you shooting if in a cash crunch. Plus, there will be Weapon accs. that people sell from their included accessory package for a discount, so this offers them a way to recycle.

That is pretty amazing. I was outrageously wrong on most accounts. The Raven will make alot people happy. Awesome, indeed. The Internet will explode soon.

Brain is a brain?

But if they are including a Mini mag, one would suppose they would also include a place to put it?

On the other hand, Jarred did not say the Mini mag was included with the brain, so your point is probably correct.
