  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pre Ordering of CS 6 began tonight: 4-22-12

Just to confirm what I am reading in the tech specs, you need 512mb vram minimum for cs6 production premium? Most current gen macs don't even have this right now (mini, air, 13 inch mbp's etc) as well as older models. I just wanted to confirm this before making any purchasing decisions, thanks...

Is this comparison of the contents of CS5.5 from my Production Premium directory and CS6 from the Adobe website accurate? Are some of the apps, like "On Location" and "Mocha for After Effects" included in CS6 but not listed on the Adobe website?

Regarding Curtis's question:

OnLocation is no longer part of any of our products for sale.

mocha-AE is still in the suite, but not as a separate application, per se. It's more tightly integrated with After Effects now, so you launch it from within After Effects.

Regarding Brian's question:

The VRAM requirement is not to use the applications in the suite at all; the VRAM requirements are for specific features. The GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer in After Effects, for example, requires 512MB VRAM.

I'm unclear on how the Adobe Cloud license/membership works. Is it user based or CPU based? For example, with the standard license I install the software on my MacPro for in-office work and my laptop for roadwarrior mode.
How does that map to the cloud? Could I for example go to a client site and get on a new machine, login to the cloud, install and run AE while I am there?

Paul,

With the Creative Cloud Membership (CCM), you can still have the software installed on two computers with the single-user retail license---just like with the perpetual license option.

I have Adobe CS 5.5 on both my MacBook Pro and my Windows desktop (separate boxed versions of the software because it's not "hybrid" software). I think that going for the Creative Cloud looks like the best value rather than buying two separate upgrades. Any opinions to the contrary from you guys?

I'm giving the Cloud option more consideration than I thought I might. If I decide to try the introductory cloud price @ $360 for one year and then decide next April that I want to revert to a perpetual license, will I be able get a CS7 perpetual license for the 2013 upgrade price from CS6? (I hope that makes sense.)

Just Pre ordered the Cloud service. At $29.99 for the first year, that is hard to beat to have access to the entire Adobe Collection, and 20GB of online storage.

I went that route as well. But you meant $29.99 a month, right?

This is what I'm thinking of doing. Keeping one license and then selling the other. Only keeping one license so I always have software in case I change my mind later. Plus I could really use Dreamweaver. I used and loved that from back in the Macromedia days.

Todd, I know the geographical price differences aren't your area, so I wont harp on about that. Is the cloud storage space suitable for storing media files to stream to a website? I have a need for this service, my web design guy is using the Adobe Business Catalyst platform and we've run into an issue whereby Adobe Business Catalyst has a file size limitation upload limitation of 100mb, which is too small for my needs. Does Adobe have plans to provide storage space for media serving for secure websites?

I upgraded Jan 25th from CS5 Prod Prem to CS5.5 Prod Prem it cost me 399 + tax. It will cost me 375 + tax to upgrade to CS6 Prod Prem.

Had I waited and gone from CS5 to CS6 (i.e. skipped CS5.5) I would have paid $50 less approx. No big deal. But all these update costs have me thinking cloud might be better. No idea what to do tho - just wishing Adobe would cut me some slack as I JUST updated less than 3 mo. ago. That or give us Reduser a GROUPON or something.

EDIT: is speed grade in CS6 Prod Premium?

Right?!

@Todd Kopriva - Thanks for all the info. Just curious if there has been official word yet on RedColor3/RedGamma3 Support throughout the Adobe Production Premium CS6 Suite. Also curious about the Look:FX Effects like Alchemy and if those are somehow supported.

One other question I forgot to ask you guys at NAB, is the Red importer plugin now something that can be downloaded and installed through the Bridge CS6 updater? The Adobe Friends party was too much fun and I couldn't focus :)

Hi Phil,

The first thing we are focusing on is Red Color3/Gamma3 and Magic Motion... Alchemy later. I will do my best to help get this out to you guys soon, but I can never promise...

Cheers

Dave
