  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pre Ordering of CS 6 began tonight: 4-22-12

Mark, I don't actually know much about the storage features of Creative Cloud. That's pretty far outside of my area. I'll see if I can find the right place to point you to more information.

One other question I forgot to ask you guys at NAB, is the Red importer plugin now something that can be downloaded and installed through the Bridge CS6 updater? The Adobe Friends party was too much fun and I couldn't focus :)

The Red Importer is no longer needed as a seperate install in CS6 Phil. Import of Epic and Scarlet footage now happens natively :)

Hi Phil,

The first thing we are focusing on is Red Color3/Gamma3 and Magic Motion... Alchemy later. I will do my best to help get this out to you guys soon, but I can never promise...

Thanks Dave. Totally agree, that's the most important stuff! RC3 and RG3 I'm guessing is what must Red shooters will be desiring first.

Thanks Brad, I noticed that on the beta. Just curious as to what happens when it needs to be updated. Likely a Premiere Pro, After Effects, Speedgrade, and Media Encoder update I imagine then.

Is there going to be other Creative Cloud pricing options? I have zero interest in keeping my documents online so I don't need 20GB of storage, but applications (like Muse) and other non-storage features I might be interested in. Or a way to have lower pricing and limited to only certain applications rather than the entire collection?

Here's a link to discounted pricing for current customers (with CS3 and later):

Todd,
What is the difference in paying $375 to upgrade a 5.5 seat vs the Cloud at $29/mo. I must have missed something.

We have 6 or 7 seats of Production Premium bundle...what is the best option for us to upgrade everyone.

I think that it's the wrong idea to try to compare the cost of the perpetual license upgrade to the cost of the Creative Cloud Membership subscription. They're two different options, and people will find each useful for different purposes. Which is right for you is up to you.

But here's a canonical example in which the monthly subscription certainly makes sense: You've got a project in which you need to bring in a couple dozen short-term contractors for a month. Renting the software for a month makes a lot more sense than buying a couple dozen perpetual licenses that will go unused when the project is over.

But I am NOT the pricing/sales/Creative-Cloud guy. I know After Effects and Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder features. I'm not useful for these pricing questions.

Hi Todd, I'm very tempted by the first-year discount for the Creative Cloud, and see some advantage it will have in my situation over a perpetual license. Pretty much the same price as upgrading my perpetual license CS5.5 for a couple of additional apps that I would find useful.

However, I'm worried about the following years, when my CS5.5 is no longer eligible for the one version back perpetual license upgrade. At that time if I had kept with the perpetual license I would probably be looking at upgrading each year for $350-$400. Whereas if I shift to the Creative Cloud, it will shift to $600/year. Am I overlooking something?

Gotcha...great idea. So I'll just upgrade all the permanent seats then.

Paul (and others),

Please don't count on me to help you to determine which licensing option to choose. I know technical details of the video applications; I'm not the sales/pricing guy.

If you have questions about pricing and upgrades, they need to go to the people who specialize in these issues---Customer Service:

I think the Creative Cloud is a fantastic idea, especially for those who use much of the Master Collection. If you do your own web development, access to the TypeKit is cool. Lightroom is also part of the package. Even at the full price, $600 a year seem VERY fair to me, especially if Adobe is committed to more frequent updates.

I do not see them offering a la carte versions of the cloud package. Infrastructure and admin would be too complex.

I'm disappointed that Muse is only available with Creative Cloud. I don't need all the CS6 apps. Production Premium is perfect for me, except that my website is really simple and Muse would be great to transition from iWeb to, but I'd basically be forced to get Creative Cloud at $600 per year to be able to use Muse. That makes Muse a $275 application. And I don't need or want the online storage features. I really don't like this cloud and subscription-based apps nonsense.

Does anyone know if I can go from cs5.0 to cs6.5 or should i be rushing to upgrade now? I know they are changing their policies around but I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone at Adobe and frankly I am a cheap guy and would rather wait for 6.5 if I can without needing a whole new license

Mike (and others):

Asking detailed questions and criticizing Creative Cloud here on the RED User forum isn't that useful, since the Adobe folks who hang out here are all technical video folks, not the people who actually know the details of Creative Cloud or set the pricing and upgrade policies.

There's a Creative Cloud forum on the Adobe website here:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/creative_cloud_touch_apps/adobe_creative_cloud
That's a much better place for these questions, observations, and criticisms. The right people will see them there (rather than me forwarding every message from here and playing go-between for answers).
