First things first: This image is a photoshop mockup...

Once I get my teeth into something, I don't let go, but I truly believe that if a little PRORES module like this existed, RED would be in back order on them for years !!!. I'd put healthy deposits down right now just to help ramp production.

It's true that the RED RAW workflow can annoy a lot of people especially if you don't own a RED ROCKET Card. Even worse for people shooting out in the field, or shooting doco's, TV shows, TVad's, Web, low budget films etc... or just need that really quick turn around time.

It would put Scarlet owners into a frenzy !! (and most of the EPIC owners) and I swear it will double sales for Red over night with people knowing they have super (extra) fast workflow options at hand. I get so many emails from RED USERS begging for fast post solutions, this would be the biggest and best solution of all.

The Scarlet clan could edit in the skate park 10 seconds after shooting on there laptops, Doco dudes in there tents at nights editing instead of transcoding. People like me editing (and grading) on site... For 99% of EPIC & Scarlet owners... this little unit would be Gold !.
Imagine Time code matched to the simultaneously shot R3D raw files and we can all edit in seconds, master from the PRO RES or better yet link back to the RAW files and grade our little hearts out...

Me personally, I love my RAW workflow, but I'm one of the lucky ones that has super fast post solutions in house, but most of my jobs are away OS and I get tortured by inadequate post houses in foreign countries... and I end up doing everything myself in my Hotel Room.

Arri did one great thing with its Alexa and made it shoot PRORES, And thats the only reason it's taken off so well for what it is. If everyone had to work with the super heavy ARRI RAW files, I swear Arri would have sold hardly any of them... (flash back to D21) - If RED was to take one single page form there book, actually not even that... just one single line... It would have to be that feature. Forget the rest.

This thread is designed as a SURVEY thread, Vote with your posts and tell RED that we all want this. But at the same time, tell them we love RAW as well. Please post reasons why you need it and want it. The more we share our needs the more RED decide its viable...
Where can I leave a deposit...

VOTE 1 for 4k / 2k Pro res (Log C or REDLOG or REDCOLOR3) MODULE + RAW R3D's.

This image is real ! (but i hate clunky H264's) but I do like the streaming idea.

a godsend for ENG work

Would make a big difference to my application. Am planning on recording SDI out to Nanoflash as an in field useable option but this proposed system could have huge advantages. But also I'd rather the RED team put all their efforts into supplying cameras and the basic items before starting on yet more nice add-ons...

I'm a buyer.... I'll order 6 units asap.

Ive said from day one.... Raw recording is the highest bar and the way to do digital capture the "right way". But most work (by a large margin) doesn't need it, doesn't want it.... and if it cost anymore, wont rent it if the process slows production or post in anyway. Having a "baked in" codec option would change the game immediately from Red camera products being used in a small segment of production to potentially every corner of this industry. Hanging a Ki-Pro off the end is not a "professional" solution and is problematic in many ways.

These days having a choice is "Professional"..... choose the appropriate recording for the job at hand all within the same system.

IMHO

+1 for me! :)

It is all about options. I am awaiting my Scarlet, but lack of options when needed is one of the things that made the purchase difficult. I dread hanging a box off the side somewhere to hack together a quasi-solution. A Red module; the best of both worlds in a compact package that works!

I don't think the guys that make the accessories would be the same guys that would make this box.
Fortunately all this technology already exists, RED just have to make a box to stick it in. if ARRI can do it, RED can do it even better.

my dream module mockup

my dream module mockup

Nice mockup and nice module idea, would be a best seller for sure...

don't want to hijack the thread but here is my dream module...

PMA.png

it acts both as a module adapter and a mini Pro-IO with :

an additionnel EVF/LCD port on dumb side for AC, 2 extra user buttons and an SD slot to store cam presets and if possible serve as emergency firmware reinstall (similar to what we had on the RED ONE)
Not sure it is at all doable size-wise but that would be an awesome module to keep a small camera but use 2 RED displays when needed.

+10,000,000...........

R3D RAW is King, but this module would absolutely kick ass! DNxHD MXF whilst recording 5K R3D RAW = :emote_head_explode:!

Here's to hoping!

:emote_popcorn:

All the best,
