    Blackshading Question

I have been on a self-imposed hiatus form shooting for about two months. So my Dragon hasn't been out of it's case in that time. I am curious if I need to do a current blackshade or if I can just go back to shooting? I know I use the adaptive fan setting when I blackshade. Thanks Tommy

    To Vimeo Pro or not

So, I have been debating this for quite sometime if I should upgrade my basic Vimeo account or not? My YouTube channel is kind of established and I really don't have that much of an issue with YouTube's compression for what I do. Any suggestions? Tommy

    Upgrading to Yosimite

Qucik question for anyone running OSX Yosimite and NVIDA card using web drivers. Did you have to revert to a flashed video card (i.e. ATI or flashed NVIDA card) to install Yosimite? I'm running a GTX 780 under web drivers so I can't do an OPT hold and boot up in "Safe mode" on OSX Thanks Tommy

    AME to Youtube?

I just noticed when exporting a test grade out of AME that under the publish settings they now allow a direct YouTube and Vimeo upload without having to first render then go through the web browser and do the upload. Thank you Adobe! Thought I would share. Tommy

    Suggestions for a good solution

I am grading some footage that was shot on my Dragon (I didn't set up the shot nor was I the DP) - of a night horseback ride. The horese were being followed by a truck as they rode away from the camera. Everything is fine but one of the horses horseshoe's is catching the light and becoming very...

Relinking Proxies with different names to source R3D files

Working a project & doing the coloring, the editing side created "common" named proxies and now we are trying to link these MP4's back to the source R3D files to export out an xml for Resolve via premiere. Can't seem to make premiere find the source files. The proxies were created in Premiere...

SDI to HDMI vs straight HMDI

Hello, I was at NAB and ended up chatting with FSI about their AM210 monitor which only has SDI inputs, while talking to the rep I mentioned I have the Decklink Mini Monitor running out to an ASUS PA24Q 24" monitor via HDMI. He suggested I pick up an SDI to HDMI converter stating that SDI...

    Thoughts on FSI AM210

This NAB was my first and wow it was overwhelming - but I had the chance to talk to FSI about a dual purpose monitor for grading and on set use as a directors monitor. Everything I'm self producing is single camera. Has anyone had any experience with the FSI AM210 21" monitor? Thanks

    Furious 7 - Sara Jones

Went to see Furious 7 last night partly because I had heard they used the Epic quite a bit (though IMDB lists the primary cameras as Alexia's). But I was very happily surprised to see near the end of the credit roll a logo pop up that said "Saftey for Sara". I thought that was a fitting tribute.

    LG 40UB800

Has anyone checked out the LG 40UB800 4K monitor as a directors monitor or for focus pulling? It's UHD also wondering if it would work as descent display monitor. Thanks Tommy

Canon FD Lenses & Matte Box/Follow Focus on Dragon

So since upgrading to the Dragon I have noticed I have to make a choice of either using my Tilta Follow Focus or the matte box. It seems since the larger front fan sticks out further I can't get my FF closer to the camera body to be able to slide the matte box back far enough. Does anyone have...

Know the law's and ordinances where you film

(Reposting this from my Facebook posts) I wanted to share the importance of knowing the rules where your shooting. This weekend while shooting on the river the production I was working under was approached by a Park Police Officer on a bike and asked for the permit - while that was happening the...

    Switronix XP-L95RED power down

I was on a shoot today and I noticed two things about Switronix XP-L95 RED batteries. First they shut down when the camera was saying they still had around 30 minutes of life left, but more concerning was I had a revolt in the Side handle and when the V-Mount died it didn't kick over the...

Patent Group new fees for 4K H.265/HEVC

***Sorry if this isn't the right area to post this*** But curious on thoughts of what this will do to 4K deliverables and streaming. Since we are shooting in at least 4K and now as bandwidth expands to making 4K streaming/UHD a reality...

    Slightly confused

So I posted my first random tests shots using my Dragon from about a month ago, one of the reasons I didn't post it earlier was in the view both on Premiere & Resolve it looked highly noisy. When I dropped the raw shots R3D's into a 4K timeline in premiere and exported them using PRORES 422(HQ)...

    First Dragon footage

This is just a quick clip (13 seconds) of some video coverage of a photoshoot. All run and gun 2000ISO using LLOLPF. Not graded or corrected. 4K capable. Thought I would share. Thanks

    Yosemite stable?

I'm still working in Mavericks 10.9.5 and I have been thinking about upgrading to Yosemite. Is it stable enough to the upgrade? I am shooting on a dragon and using Premiere Pro - typically dropping the R3D files from the shoot directly into a 1080 timeline. Thanks

REDCINE X taking 5-10 minutes to open

I am using RCX Build 33 and just in the last couple of weeks it has been taking RCX up to 10 minutes to open. I'm on a Old Mac Pro Tower dual 2.4GHZ Quad core, 40GB of RAM, System Drive is 120GB SSD. I've uninstalled and reinstalled RCX twice - did new downloads of the installer each time...
