I am using RCX Build 33 and just in the last couple of weeks it has been taking RCX up to 10 minutes to open. I'm on a Old Mac Pro Tower dual 2.4GHZ Quad core, 40GB of RAM, System Drive is 120GB SSD.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled RCX twice - did new downloads of the installer each time.

Any ideas

Tommy

Which OS? The last time I used RCX was under OSX 10.9, but I think quite a bit changed with 10.10.

Hi Tom,

Any external interfaces configured? Control surfaces? External monitors?.

If you have RCX please do a "Save Report" from the Help menu and email that to us here at redcinex at red dot com.

One quick thing to try would be to reset your preferences.

Go to ~/Library/Application Support/red/RedCineX/Preferences. Rename Preferences.ini to Preferences.ini.backup or something. RCX will automatically create a new default one next time it starts. If RCX is starting normally next time please email us that Preferences file also so we can take a look.

Thanks,
David

Does changing the scan depth (in the RC-X browser tab - gear icon) have any effect?

The default is 3, try changing it to 1

Tom,

We've seen this issue before, but it's been a long time. If I recall correctly it is something getting hung up in the EuCon SDK that talks to the AVID Artist series control panels. We reported it to AVID several years ago, but never heard back :/

Is EuCon running with devices connected when this happens? If not, try starting that up before launching RCX.

@grant I have the EUControl completely closed and it still takes quite a while to open. So I just started up EUcontrol and connected my Avid Artist panel then opened RCX and it opened almost instantaneously! I never use my panel with RCX - only Resolve.

Thanks for the suggesting that it maybe the panel and controller.

Tommy

Well since you never use it in REDCINE-X, you can go into the Preferences. Under UI Devices, uncheck "Enable external input surfaces."

That should resolve the issue whether EuCon is running or not as REDCINE-X won't attempt to use it anymore.

Same issue here with the Eucon control. That fixed it as well. I've noticed the Artist Color doesn't seem to hand shake with RCX as well though. It tend to get the block symbols on the LCD a lot more where as prior builds would see the board instantly and pop up the knob functions on the LCD immediately. Maybe an older Eucon build is required with RCX 33?

I finally feel like the latest version of EU Control is a stable version with both Resolve and RCX - I had way to many issues with the previous version to list with EU Control and Resolve. Still considering selling my Avid Artist Color - I love the panel but unless this version of EU Control remains stable its not work the reboots and everything else it takes to get resolve to see the damned panel
