So, I have been debating this for quite sometime if I should upgrade my basic Vimeo account or not? My YouTube channel is kind of established and I really don't have that much of an issue with YouTube's compression for what I do.

Any suggestions?

Tommy

Hi Tom,
We use Vimeo Pro quite a bit, both for publicising our own clips/programmes/shoots etc, and for allowing clients a quick 'go-to' option that works across phones, tablets and computers, 3G, 4G, Wifi etc.. In our mind, the small cost per year - which is minimal even if you average it over one job a month for 12 months, is a boon. Its quick, easy and works!

IIRC, Vimeo Plus pretty much does what most people want unless they want to charge people to see their material; this is where Vimeo Pro kicks in. Am I missing something?

I use pro, it lets you post up to 5 gigs a week. Great for client approval and don't need to keep size down. I got it for only $60 per year so it was a no brainer for me. If YouTube works for you, you may not need it. I like the no ads Vimeo gives me.

I think I'd use Pro if I could get it at that price!

Vimeo Plus since 2011...

The only thing I would have seen attractive to go PRO for $164 x year is their advertisement saying that on PRO you get higher quality images out of your HD material...

However I do get UHD4k on Youtube for free, so I don't think that would be good selling point for me.

However since I haven't really made much of use of Vimeo as of lately I don't know if they music policies are the same and as severe at Youtube, if they are not, for some one that can't afford to pay for music rights, then Vimeo could still be a good option.

Vimeo Pro, because I like to post videos in ProRes422. I also like to put my logo bottom right on certain clips.

For clients approvals it's great. Using Youtube for client approvals always says 'amateur' to me.

+ thumbnails, security, constant URL and all the other stuff, but you can get that in a Plus package.

I had PRO for 2 years and no longer have it. In my opinion, not worth it.

I've always had issues with Vimeo's playback in full HD, not even talking about 4K (which YouTube supports...free). Also, I really don't like their new copyright policies when it comes to music, etc, read up on it and you'll see. It irks me, especially for a paid service.

To each their own I gues, but for me not worth it.

Does Vimeo allow you to charge for watching your material?

That's what we're looking for. And we sure as heck don't want any pop-ups on our films.

Thanks.

Stephen

With it being so easy to download videos from YouTube and Vimeo (I don't know if Vimeo Pro / On Demand is more secure),

a friend suggested developing an [iOS, etc.] app....would anyone know if this is more secure, and what the cost to develop would be?
