Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
I'm setting up a machine today to start testing metal, to see if we can move away from open CL on Mac's, as this 'should' be the solution to RGB lines in preview/export when working on nMP 6.1's. Just wanted to see if anyone else is testing with Metal at the moment too?
Hi, does anyone know of an app or program, that you can load in an FCP7 project file, then dump out an XML (Premiere compatible or DVR). I've got hundreds, if not thousands of project files that i need to convert, so a batch program would be even better!
Any pointers, tips or ideas welcome!
Need something solid and fast for 8k shooting in the middle of nowhere. I know various rigs exist but i know they're constantly evolving too and the people that build them lurk around here! What products should i be researching? Thanks
Hi,
So i'm doing some VR rendering in W10. 3840 x 1920 is the project setting and export setting. I've got 2x Pascal GPU's running in CUDA (todays driver) Manual (headless) mode, 1 is also acting as the UI. Source footage is cineform 422, but very dark. So, with both the built in NR in 12.5.2...
Has anyone found an off the shelf solution? BNC heads were great, as they locked in. Now in this digital world, one of the biggest issues i constantly face at sites is a loose cable.....thunderbolts being the biggest pain!
Anyone?
So, the AJA Calc app has a database with all this information on it already, but i can't access the database....! Does anyone know where i can get my hands on this raw data? I need everything AJA has, but need to add a tonne of extra info too. All ideas welcome. Ta
This is my suggestion for 2016. Whomever posts the most useful, insightful, humorous, thought provoking or darn right epic post/thread each month, as decided by Jim/Jarred/Brent/Graeme etc, get's the 'tip of the hat' nods from the mods, and will receive a free Red baseball cap :hat:

So, Broadcasts latest survey has shown that Red is still behind Arri when it comes to UK drama. I love looking at all this data and analyzing it, as it raises...
So, let's take Adele as an example. What source audio recording will they use to put into the final mix for Bond? I'm guessing it's a high quality file, direct from Abbey Road, right?
Now, let's take a movie like Superbad, where they use classic tracks, some of which are decades old. Do they...
Hi All. I left the UK in March 2013 after deciding to leave my job (Head of Post-Production) during a company restructure, so that I could travel the world and make use of some working holiday visas before I got too old! It´s been a great trip and an amazing experience, but alas, all good things...
I've been wondering and searching for a while, to find a true and accurate definition of HDR. Obviously it stands for high dynamic range, but what does that actually mean? We all know the best cameras on the market can offer about 16 stops of dynamic range. Are people able to pull more range out...

From memory, Jim has migrated to a soda stream and is a Coke man, but good to see Pepsi taking a stand.
Unless i've missed this story elsewhere, Red now have 2 resellers working with them in the UK. Full story here;

A great video for anyone who fully wants to understand how a camera shutter works and how rolling shutter can cause issues. Great fun too :)

There's a picture in the article showing a cameraman using a RED. I'm unaware of the full scope of the trail, but it's interesting to see that the red is being used instead of (from what i can tell), Panasonic or Sony kit. I'm guessing the broadcast...

So, engineering and post-workflow under one roof. Seems like a smart move to me
I'm getting really annoyed with fake 3D. It's doing a disservice to the industry. Let's take the new X-MEN film as an example.

Even after looking at the specs, i can't tell if it was shot with 2 Arri cameras in a rig, or just shot...
Here's the company;

They're installing 2 cameras on a Russian modlue of the ISS. 1 is for stills, the other for video. Specs of the video are hard to find, but i came across this;
