  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

USB 3.1 (TB3) .....sooooo cheap

What kind of performance are we looking at? I can think of a few possible uses for them but wondering if anyone has any real world experience with them?

The Intel NUC design, which this is based on, is the mainstream PC response to the Mac Mini. Performance is pretty crappy usually -- stuck with quad-core CPUs, small memory sizes, on-chip GPU and in a form factor that likes to overheat if you push it too hard or choose too much CPU.

OTOH, for a general purpose computer that can do pretty much anything other than high end video or CAD work and you don't expect to play the latest games, it's not a bad way to go. I think the best usage for such a thing in regards to R3D workflows would be as an offloading or media management station. Might be more convenient and affordable than a small notebook PC if you already have monitors you can connect to. It could be a more powerful workstation than most of the notebooks out there, but it's lacking a discrete GPU option that the good notebooks give us.
