  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

On the Tokina the markings are off, the lens shows 0.75m but the camera is 1m away. All of my Canon L Zooms 16-35mm, 24-70mm and the 70-200mm f/2.8 do hold focus and the focus distances on these lenses match the actual shooting distance. Same is true for the L primes I tested (24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2, 135mm 1.2, 200mm 2.8).

Thanks Alexander! That's very useful information - confirms what I found too.

Erik,

Hope you had a great and productive trip to the RedUser Party. Did you get any news about the compatability of your mount with Epic-X and/or Scarlett? Any discussions? Ideas?

News on Imperio delivery schedule?

Best Regards,

Thom

Cool. Cant believe now we can put this toys in front of a Red.

Do you own it or you can rent there?
Is that squirrel an Express with metadata from camera?

Erik, any update on the Impero timetable? Is there another thread where I should look?

Guys,
sorry that I don't have the desire to go through 5 gazillion pages of the thread.

Simple questions:

Is there now a fully functioning Smart Mount for EOS lenses?
Do we have full Aperture control?
How Much?
Delivery Delay?

Cheers,
Mark.

It's a functioning Smart Mount for many EOS & EOS compatible lenses, but not every single EF mount lens has been tested. Wireless is also functional with Bluetooth from a laptop (although I haven't found it to be rock solid stable yet). Viewfactor Impero wireless remote control does seem to work, but there have been reported issues with range and reliability from initial beta units, so aren't shipping yet while they undergo antenna modifications to increase wireless range. Reliability should get fixed with firmware upgrades.

You have full aperture control with two buttons on the mount itself. Note that it changes in steps - this is a function of replicating the EOS protocol itself and not a problem with mount.

Delivery delay:
I was an early reservation so don't know - a question for people with new recent orders!

To add to Mark Thorpe's queries

Like Thorpe, I'm sort of late to the current info game where the Birger is concerned. A couple of late-to-the-party questions: Is there still a hardwired option for follow focus like the one that was proposed by Birger long ago, or has that been shopped out to Viewfactor? Is is possible to simply use this mount, cine-mod some Canon EFs, and use a readily available follow focus as opposed to waiting for the Viewfactor?

Thanks,
Hop Litzwire

Litwire, I'm not late to the party. Been here since 2006. Lots of work and other circumstances keep me away from the board for extended periods.

First name terms on a public forum is normally the case, purely as a courtesy, imho.
