  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Action Products Raptor Offer: Only Good Until 3/22

Didn't mean to derail the focus from the Raptor, my question probably should have been posted in another thread. The Movi seems to be limited to way under 90 degrees in terms of its ability to roll and keep the horizon, so I don't think it could be used as an AR style device anyhow. I saw a video where someone began to rotate it so that the rig was perpendicular to the ground and before they got there, the guy from Freefly told her not to do that just as the rig started kicking back.

Anyway, great news to hear that the Raptor is moving ahead full steam without delays. Exciting times for camera movement.

there are many limitations for the sensors and drift, its just that most people seem to watch a few videos and think that everything can be done.
unfortunattly its all those factors that make this a device with many operating flows. Noone says it doesnt work, but it works with many flows and limitations that can make an operators have a hard time operated as single device and not 2-3 people . The Magestic mode is a big compromise and there is no tilt either, so I dont understand how people think they can pull any of directors shot requirements with this, other than some compromised shots .
anyhow wrong thread lets leave it here, it is what it is nothing more nothing less, and the meaning is clearly different to different people and oppinions.
regards

I am trying to patiently wait for a shipping notice from them...but it's getting harder and harder. I can't wait to fly this thing. I checked out an Actioncam pro rig flying an Alexa for a demo...it was amazing.

Yesterday, heard that there are a few enhancements, that are going to be finalized next week, with an updated email, but the shipping track continues unmolested, to date, with previous dates as they were proffered. Options are still editable and next week should be revealing...

Thank you very much

Sounds good.

Looking forward to hearing more...

Hello everyone. I'm very sorry for the long silence time. We have been working very hard on finalizing everything. We are now getting to the point where it is possible to see when things will come together. Almost everything production wise is in progress or finished at this point. We are mainly waiting for some last minute parts and third party deliveries (mostly electronic parts). If there are no unexpected events we will have around a 2 week delay. What will mean that we will start shipping mid of June. We hope to ketch up some time but I can't promise anything. In this meaning I need to point out that this is brand new product. It is not anything from the shelf. You all are going to be the first ones to get one. This also means that it is impossible for us to fulfill any urgent requests. We wont be able to ship any units before everything is ready.
This was the "bad" news.

The good news is that we have made some improvements that we think makes up the extra waiting time. And we also will be able to offer most of the requested accessories and options that were asked for.

- The Raptor is now compatible with our module system as you know it for the Epic. This means you will be able to use our battery moudle, Electra ect. in combination with the rig. More on this soon.
- We designed a new hybrid camera plate that we will be offering as a option for the stage
- We will be offering the requested break-out box for pre-order
- A hardcase is beeng finalized right now.
- .... and more

I will be posting from now on more frequently and will keep you updated on all improvements and the final progress on production.

Thanks

Daryl

Thanks Daryl.

More info will be useful, as we can then decide what parts to change or opt for (etc).

Keep us updated ;)

Hi Daryl

Thanks. Coud you post the particulars on the plate and Breakout Box, please?

Thank you very much

I travelled the last days in Switzerland and had a stop at action products. Daryl showed me all the finished parts and all I can say is WOW! We will get the best light rig on this planet. Not one part is a copy of existing systems, it´s a up to date 2013 design, swiss engineering at its best, all parts perfectly machined. Only one minor part on the vest will be folded.
Honestly, I´m speechless. Alone the Raptor arm is a piece of art worth the money we pay for the whole rig. This Arm is lightwheigt (4kg with springs) but feels even lighter. To get a comparable quality you´d have to buy a GPI PRO Atlas or a G50X. The Vest is a unigue design, lightwheigt, back friendly. I could not try it, but I guess the comfort will be a bit like Walter Klaasen´s back mounted vest or the new Fawcett Exovest (which I just tried recently and is awesome).
Now the Sled: If you once saw the ap manufactured carbon rods then you know what I`m talking about. The center post is made from the big diameter ap carbon rod like the Rebel rig have. The expandable part is made from the smaller diameter rod. The base is so well thought trough, you will have no problem to configure the rig like you need it...as a running rig, long base possibilities by simple exchanging the 15mm with longer ones (for ex. architectual or dolly like slow shots), a tilting base so you can get the monitor higher up easily. In any configuration it will be easy to adjust dynamic balance.
Let me say something about the wiring, sticking cables trough the post just like you need it (open tube). I love this simple ap concept. It is so easy to just add or replace a cable. No need to have all the time all possible cables running trough the post if you don´t need them for the job. I like that. And for more complex wiring and outputs they have and develop power boxes. Needless to say through this open wiring system it is always possible to put power boxes from other manufacturers too.
I could go on for hours about it, I´m so amazed...can´t wait to get mine...but it´s worth to wait for such a rig, which is at quality level like the high end rigs from GPI or Tiffen or MKV . BTW the arm post is standard 19mm, so you can also put a archer sled on it (or every other high end sled with 19mm connection).
And it is truly modular....not all parts were finished, but I´m still a bit shocked how good it is already.
Marc

Here's the Raptor arm flying a RebelElite Sled with 6pound HiBright Monitor, Epic with Cooke S4 lens and a C-motion FF.

Hi Brian,

thanks for posting this teaser. I´m sorry, but it does not show half of the quality and beauty of the raptor arm. You all did a amazing job designing this rig. Congrats and thank you!
And a big thanks to Daryl to take the time to show me the finished parts.
Happy shooting!

ActionCam Raptor almost done!!!!!!!

ActionCam Raptor almost done!!!!!!!

We are getting close to finalizing the production of the Raptor Group-Buy Rigs.

As mentioned before, the Raptor is a newly designed stabilizing system so we used the last few weeks to make some fine-tuning changes that we believe you will be very excited about.
We will start shipping units in approximately 2 weeks. This is an estimated timeframe so it will be (+ or -) a few days. Please also keep in mind that it will take us a few days to get all units out. For this reason we have decided to handle the last payment and shipping as the following:
We will be putting the Raptor as an official product on innocinema.com within the next two days. Every customer will then receive an email with a pre-configured cart with the Raptor and all chosen options. All existing and new options can still be chosen and changes can be made.
Based on the down payment made, we will send each of you a discount code that reflects the group-buy discount and the down payment.

Please note the following information on shipping:
  • We will be sending out individual emails when the cart is ready. We hope you understand that this will take a few days until everyone receives his or her email.
  • Shipment will be organized within 2 weeks after we receive the final payment.
  • Full payment should be made within 20 days after your cart is ready. If you need more time - please contact us.
  • Some new options will not be ready for shipment right away (please read further below for details). If you choose any of these options we will send you an email where you can choose whether you want a partial delivery or not.

We have received several requests for options and are happy to announce that we can offer most of them plus some enhancements:

Tool-free Gimbal: We have redesigned the gimbal clamp to be tool-free. However the tool-free handle will not be ready at shipping time for the rig. We will send all customers the handle as soon as it is ready. This will take a few weeks. In the mean time the gimbal clamp will be delivered with the original screw and tool.

Nano BridgePlate (Clamp-On Adapter): The stage clamp is now designed that it also can be used as an Arri-Style mini bridge plate.

Hybrid Arri Adapter Camera Plate: Next to the short and long Arri Adapter Plates we are now also offering a Hybrid version. This plate can be used as an adapter plate for the stage (and/or a tripod) or as a camera plate. The length of the plate is in-between both Arri Adapter plates (270mm - 10.6"). It's the ideal plate to use with the Nano BridgePlate (Clamp-On Adapter)

Standard Battery Plate: We will now be offering three options for the battery plate:
  • Standard (Group-Buy package): 1x Camera Out, 1x D-Tap, 1x 2pin LEMO (both 12V unregulated battery power) and 1x Fischer 5V connector.
  • Elite: The same but with 2x 2pin LEMO connectors instead of 1x.
  • ActionProducts Module Battery Plates: You can attach our regular Module Battery Plates. These Plates offer 1x Camera Out and 1x D-Tap and are fully compatible with our EPIC/SCARLET Module System.

Optional Second Battery Plate:
We can now offer (pre-order) an optional battery plate for "two battery setups" (together with a SwapPack or even a three battery setup). The plate automatically recognizes if the other battery plate is connected and then redirects the power of the first battery to the camera, leaving the other battery plate(s) on their own for the accessories. If no second battery is attached, it powers both camera and accessories. Besides Camera power, it offers 1x D-Tap and 1x 2pin LEMO (both 12V unregulated battery power) for Accessories. This Plate is ready for pre-order but won't ship until beginning or mid of July.

Junction Box: A junction Box (in different configurations) can be pre-ordered (The Junction Box is ready for pre-order but won't ship until beginning or mid of July).

Compatible with our Module System: The Raptor uses the same connector as our Camera Module System (previously used only for the EPIC/SCARLET). This means you can use the Raptor with our existing and future modules. A required adapter mount is available for pre-order. Example: The Electra can be used on the system. This product offers several accessory ins/outs with a buffer battery for hot swap of the battery and a 24V accessory up-converter.

Hard Case: A hard case for the full rig (Vest, Arm, Post) is available. The case can be ordered, "empty" (w/o any foam) or with laser cut foam. The case will be available shortly after we start shipping the units (around a week later). All customers that order the case will be able to choose to receive the rig with the case together or separate.

Elite Options: We will be offering the raptor similar to the Rebel series in three different packages: Raptor, Raptor Pro and Raptor Elite. The options for the Elite are available for those who are interested in mixing some traits from the Rebel Series (Pro Arm Connector, separate Monitor Mount, 50 lb. Vest , etc.).

Weight Options: We will be offering some weight components. These are used to add bottom weight to the rig if you are using heavy setups and don't have any own weights.

We would like to thank you for your participation on this group-buy. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Cheers for the update.

Will there be examples of the various new/redesigned elements? It would be useful to see pics/examples ie the redesigned Nano clamp vs the original (or in comparison to the original 'other' option of only an Arri plate).

In terms of delivery (with various options), can ordering/delivery be timed so the Raptor ships with tool free option (I'm just considering extra international postage - so it might be more cost effective to wait until all options are ready)?
