Are we supposed to get confirmations once we have done the check list for customization? Did mine last week but it's been all quite ever since. Just curious.

Bad you;-)
Actualy I want one too, but not as a replacement - it's a new tool that gives you new possibilities. However it can not replace steadicam because:

-Hold a set up like shown for more than a minute without getting a cramp in your arm and you can call yourself hercules:)
-requires up to three people to pull off the stuff they did in vincents film (poor guy caring the rig, remote head operator, focus puller), Don't think that will make producers smile;-)
-readi to go system is probably in the same range as a good steadicam
-don't even think trying to run that system with a pro lens like a Masterprime

Cheers

Exactly the conclusions I came to Brian. An amazing new tool for the tool bag, but not a steadicam replacement.

Will really have to test M-20 first.
This unit +any steadicam with nice boom range = best combo
I still think M-20 will be over-price (lol)

Please get back to the topic now

Hi Brian

Really looking forward to the Raptor. You know I want one of your Actioncams ever since.
Finally I made the order.
I also bought the Actionproducts Paralinx Module yesterday. Great design and it works perfect so far.

Keep it up guys.

See ya next week.

Tim

As today comes to a close, I want to personally thank everyone that has participated in this offer. This is a great start the release of this rig. ActionProducts has been tweaking this one for over 2 years now so its great to see this kind of response. We know you will love it! We can't wait to hear your feedback when you get it and how it impacts your careers over the years.

Thank you and stay posted as we finalize all your option / addition choices and fulfillment.

Any thoughts on how the Raptor could interface with a Movi? Freefly have indicated that they will build a Steadicam bracket for it. I'm not sure if it would make use of the sled or simply attach to the arm. Clearly using the Epic on the Movi for long periods of time would require some sort of support, Easyrig or Steadicam. I'm interested in the Movi because I'll be fillming a feature in a couple months that is entirely told through the POV of a ghost. Very exciting to imagine moving through windows and from ground to aerial footage for this project with the Movi, but day to day I'll need support so hoping to use the Raptor and Movi together.

It would be amazing if someone offered a not-too-expensive horizon leveling add on to turn the Raptor or other Steadicam into an MKV-AR style rig.

any attachment of this device on any steadicam arm vest combination, will limit many factors below
1) low mode ,high mode -depending of how the head is mounted over or under slang.(that is if its not monted on a post and only directly)
2)freedom of running jumping benting - due to the vest attachment toyour body.
3) its still a 2 man operation for the rig and another one for focus, no matter what movi people say, their solution of slightly soft pans is very unlikelly to work with most shots and you cannot tilt manually either

Over all , I think this is a very over estimated project, its certaingly not a game changer, and all it can be is a good cheap gyrohead for other mounts like vehicle, aerial, crane kinda style.
Mounting this to the post like AR will also effect various patents as far as I know , not a big fun of MKV since I really dont like their policies and how they have jumped into this game with the AR, but it will still effect their patent if that is announced officially as a steadicam sled add on product.

and by the way the horizon accurancy of this , judging through the videos I have seen is not that accurate, and it will be even worst when you will have to roll 180+ degrees to go fro high tolow mode.
Regards

I think if you mount the movi on a sled while the sled is horizontal, then balance as such I think you could probably get from low mode to high mode pretty easily... Even better if you use a long post. You would be able to get a pretty big movement out of it. You would be basically turning it into a pole cam .

look again how the camera is mounted on the rig, and rething about the balance...and how good it can be..
joshua all the point on this was to use it freely and not end up to a limited body mount , hard to move turn and control, steadicam rig in horizontial possition.
so if you want to do this, I have a better suggestion , get a segway, mount it on a pro heavy spring arm, add a short 1,5m
jib, and here you go you have a runner, with very high and low shots..
hardly a hheld system that works is it now?
of cource you ll find that this have been done at least 3 years ago from the Filmotechnic company, with their smaller version gyro head, go and see the footage and the videos.
regards

I'm almost positive that you can set up the rig to be mounted from every axis. They have an rc car they bolt it to. It doesn't have to hang underslung. you can also use it in Majestic mode with both pan and tilt moving with your movement. I don't think there are a lot of huge drawbacks to this device. its a matter of figuring out fun new ways of using it.

I have a feeling your thinking about it wrong... if you want to use some sort of device to hold the movi on your body... It doesn't have to be like a traditional steadicam vest. It can be lighter more flexible. not as rigid.. Your only carrying 13lbs + or -

Realistically you could put together a vest that you can run, jump, rollerskate, jump in a car with. All while being able to control the movi more precisely.

I held the movi at Nab. Although they had it set to slower movement settings there, as well as tilt lock, it seemed to be just so that a wide range of people that would just grab the thing and start doing anything with it. Possibly things it wasn't designed for or doesn't have the coding for yet. It's really just the start of using things like this.
You have to set yourself up for success if you know what I mean.

Using the movi in one person mode will be just like steadicam. It will take a lot of practice to learn and to hone your skills. You just wont be worrying about horizon anymore. It will be framing instead.

Joshua ...many drawbacks sorry I dissagree, however it can be good for small cams.
we are in the wrong board for this.
have a look below at this link.. after 1.01
