Action Products Raptor Offer: Only Good Until 3/22

What I'm not clear about is the difference between the new Raptor and the previous versions/pricepoints of the RebelRed, RebelPro and RebelElite.

What I'm not clear about is the difference between the new Raptor and the previous versions/pricepoints of the RebelRed, RebelPro and RebelElite.

The best way to see exactly the difference between the series of ActionCam rigs is to play around with our "Build Your Own" feature on innocinema. There you will be able to choose all the available options for all 3 set-ups. In this way you will see that the options for customization are vast. The whole princible behind these rigs is "full modularity", so this means technically you are using some of the same parts for all 3 of these setups. We just separated them out into 3 setups so it would be an easier place to start with your customizations. The new Raptor is based on this same concept, just built for lighter weight systems than the Rebel series.

ActionCam Raptor Option List Update with SMALLHD addition

ActionCam Raptor Option List Update with SMALLHD addition

Thank you to everyone that has already payed your 20% deposit! You guys rock!!

By now all of you should have recieved an email from ActionProducts with a link to an online Option List. At this forum you can dynamically choice exactly what options you want and see what the cost will be in real time. Also, just incase some of you don't know yet, we are excited to announce that SmallHD is an official monitor option for this offer!

Please follow the below steps to proceed with this as fast as you can so we can make sure that we make all of your rigs EXACTLY the way you want, with no delay in production times.

  1. If you have not placed your 20% deposit yet, please do so by clicking on this product listing "ActionCam Raptor 20% Deposit" and checking out with it on innocinema.com.
  2. Click on this link to the "ActionCam Raptor Option Online Submission" and choose your options by using the check boxes and radio buttons, then click submit.
  3. What the below video on this demo of how durable SmallHD AC-7 monitors are... its the most hilarious demo video I have ever seen!!

The AC7 looks nice, but any thoughts on daylight use? It seems the DP7 Pro HB-SX is the one for daylight use.

With NAB around the corner and the Odyssey having some nice options (and potential as a recorder), it's an interesting time for monitors.

Hey Justin,

Got the list, looks great.

three questions:

1. What is the HD-SDI System Cable, how does it differ from a regular HD-SDI cable and if it is installed and not used at all times is it in the way of other cabling options? (say I drop a 24" RED LCD cable down the post to start with but plan to upgrade to a Small HD monitor eventually)

2. If I choose the route of the Epic lemo instead of standard connector for the power option how hard is it to change to a standard power connector down the line if it became an issue?

3. What is the "predicted" delivery date for this first batch of units?

Cheers!

That's a really impressive video, but I think I'll pass on any B-stock units or "gently used" offers they might promote in the near future...:smash:

I would like some more details on the power/video distribution for the Raptor.
I understand its an open system where any cables can run up the post feeding the top from the bottom or vice versa.
Is the Standard 8pin System Cable just a single power feed for the camera from the battery plate at the base? As an 8 pin cable - epic/scarlet is 6 pin.
What are the 2 extra cables for?
Is there accessory power out options from this cable at the top stage with any of the listed cables in the current raptor option list?
Is there an 8 pin 'powerbox' similar to the 10 pin 'powerbox' version currently on the AP site in the works to interface with the Standard 8pin System Cable? If so what connectors will this powerbox have on it?
Will the 'Standard 8pin System Cable' be able to provide HDSDI to this powerbox also, like the current 10 pin version on the AP site can? If not, could it be an option to get the Raptor with the currently available 10 pin power/video cable, and the current 'powerbox' (10pin connector) be purchased as an option?

What is the 'HDSDI system cable' listed in the option list? Is this simply an HD-SDI cable long enough for running down the post directly between camera and monitor , or is it a more integrated option?
Can AP please clarify details on the 'powerbox' mentioned above for the Raptor? How will it compare to the 10pin version currently available for the rebel series?
Thanks

Could we please get more details on the various options available and how they work.
The 2 top mount options aren't that clear on what will work and what will not work, same with the cable options.

  1. The HD-SDI System Cable is a regular HD-SDI cable that is installed in the post for you by being wrapped around the power cable so it will work well if you extend the post or not. In terms of being a "special" HD-SDI cable, it is not. If you would prefer to put your own in the post yourself when you get the rig. That is definitely an option for you. In terms of having to be used at all times, you don't have to if you don't need it. You could take it out or put it in on the fly at anytime. So you are easily able to put the RED LCD cable down the post in addition or instead if you want. That is the beauty of it being an open system. You really can put whatever cable you want down the post.
  2. What you will have to do is upgrade your cable from the 6pin Lemo to the 8pin Lemo. Since the cord is used for the 8pin on the other end. All you would have to do is remove the 6pin Lemo Connector, replace it with a new 8pin Lemo connector. Then get and open ended 8pin Lemo Adaptor cable and put the existing 6pin Lemo on the other end of that adaptor. That would be the cheapest way to go, with that.
  3. I don't know the exact date but as far as I know at the moment, the estimated 8 week mark from this past Monday has not changed. So that means an estimated 7 more weeks starting next Monday. I can have Daryl confirm this for you.

Some of these questions can indirectly be answered from the above question but here are some more details.
  • The power cable whether it is the offered 8pin Lemo to 8pin Lemo or 8pin Lemo to 6pin Lemo, is a single power feed from the top of the stage to the bottom of the post. if you want to have options for accessory out coming off this feed, you will need the Raptor version of the Powerbox you mentioned.
  • Just like the Powerbox for the ActionCam Rebel series. You are able to customize this to fit some of the power connections you need. The current Powerbox, by default has an HD-SDI pass through, and 3 x Arri standard 2pin Lemo Accessory outs ( Pin1 - Pin2 +). But you are able to customize these connections to Lemo or Fischer for 12v/24v accessory outs. Unfortunately I am not able to tell you to many specifics on the new Powerbox for the Raptor other than it will resemble the same concept as the current one for the Rebel. You will be able to customize accessory connections in that as well. Also remember the Rebel Powerbox can be placed anywhere on 15mm/19mm Studio rods. The New one will be able to be mounted to the Raptor's rod standard of 15mm Lightweight (60mm spacing) or 15mm Studio (100mm spacing).
  • I am sorry that this Raptor Powerbox is not finished yet. As a reminder to all, you all will be receiving the very FIRST official batch of this rig, ever. So because of this there are a few accessories (like this one) that are not quite finished yet. So please be patient as those products are wrapping up also. We promise you features like this will be offered for this rig.
  • In terms of what you are able to do now, because this is an open system, you always could put an extra cable down the post to work with an accessory that you need mounted at the bottom of the post or the top. Or you could use the P-Tap that is available off the Battery Module.
  • For your question about using the 10pin Standard for the Raptor so you use the current powerbox and even a SwapPack 12v/24v. I am not 100% on this at the moment. I can say that I don't "think" this will be a problem, but I really need to verify this with Daryl. Daryl or I will get back to you on this question.
Could we please get more details on the various options available and how they work.
The 2 top mount options aren't that clear on what will work and what will not work, same with the cable options.

It actually comes "naked" so you can mount your own plate if you want (like a quick release from RED). In this case on the photos, you can see it naked, with Arri Adapter, with Clamp Adapter (makes it work like regular stages )

  • This package comes with a choice of ether the Clamp Adaptor or the Arri Adaptor...
With Clamp Adaptor... kind of hard to see, sorry

The AC7 looks nice, but any thoughts on daylight use? It seems the DP7 Pro HB-SX is the one for daylight use.

+1.

All monitors offered in the option list are NOT high bright monitors. But we think they are all good options for a monitor for standard use. For a full daylight visibility you need at least a 800 nits monitor (personally I think 1000 to 1200 is the minimum). However it depends on what you understand under daylight. Most good monitors are viewable under daylight conditions as long as the sun is not shining directly on the screen. A hood can also be of good help. All good high bright monitors are around $3000.- and higher. We can offer high bright monitors from Boland, Transvideo and SmallHD. I have seen the SmallHD Pro HB-SX last year at NAB and had a very good impression of it. But it is still not available. The last I heard was that it will be around June/July for delivery.

The options list doesn't include ALL possible options or accessories. It is meant to include all basic options around the standard configuration of the Raptor. For individual configuration and special products (like high bright monitoring) you need to contact us directly.

I just got some very exciting news directly from ActionProducts!! After the ActionCam Raptor, there will be another series to follow called... "ActionCam Tyrannosaurus" supporting weights up to 350 pounds!!

Ikan md7

Ikan md7

I have been using the Ikan Md7 for a about a month and a half now and have found it to be very day viewable. It's also pretty reasonably priced. 2295. I think.
Here is a link to a thread on Steadicamforum there are two videos that show the monitor in a couple different situations. It's next to a Marshall outdoor monitor.
