  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Backorder Update January 13

Touch screen, redmote, or the side handle which I also have on order would do it. I just need one of those to actually operate the camera. I still have my old LCD and EvF which both work for viewing purposes.

Not being able to look at the hard numbers, but looking at how many touch screens we are now making every day, Nobody should be waiting for a touchscreen after the end of next week. We ripped through almost 75% of our LCD backorders this week alone.

Side handles are probably the longest lead-time item we have... as simple as they look, they are incredibly difficult to manufacture, and assembly takes a very long time... and almost everyone ordered 1 or 2.

Jarred - a sort of broad question - will the addition of new products to the line be handled with totally new machinery and personnel? For example, when you manufacture the Quad Power Module or introduce the Dual Power Module, will that have to fit into existing capacity, or will you tool up new lines and hire personnel to take care of these new products. I am wondering because it seems like the answer will give us a sense as to what the timeline is likely to be for new products.

Which also leads me to ask, specifically, when we might see the Dual Power Module. Thanks!

That's great news for the school I'm working with… They received there Epic-M about 2 weeks ago, and the lack of controlling device was frustrating at first. Of course, in a professional world, it's always better to have your camera body and only have to rent the LCD, rather than having to rent the whole pack… But in our case, renting is really complicated…. Hopefully this camera will be operational within a week!

Got a $40k paperweight Epic-M here. Duct taping lenses on doesn't seem to work. :wink5:

What's the flange depth of the duct tape mount? :wink5:

I have to say that I'm not so excited about this post. I have a stage 3 camera tht is unusable. I have already missed out on making money off of it and I have no idea when I might be getting at least one component to make it work. It makes me a little upset to hear that people are getting screens and redmotes when they don't even have a camera. Is there anything you guys at Red can tell me about when my camera might be usable?

I'm with you, Michael. I'm stage 2. My camera's been a very expensive paperweight the entire time I've had it because I don't have any way to operate it. I'm still waiting on the touch lcd, the redmote, the quad battery module, and the quick release platform. It kills me to have to pass on rentals when the camera's sitting right there and have no answers for my customers when they ask me when it will be available.

I know complaining won't help, but man I want to shake a baby, lol.

I'm in the same boat with my second EPIC. Hopefully we'll be out of backorder on the RED Touch next week.

Trust me.. this has kept me up at night. Just ask anyone at RED.. I've had rather embarassing temper tantrums behind closed doors over knowing some of our customers are being shipped camera brains with no way to actually using them.

The good news is that manufacturing has responded. The most important bit.. the Touch LCD, will be out of backorder next week. Redmotes will follow. New tech to manage the hundreds of thousands of components we need to make our products and make sure they are prioritized according to demand is being brought up.

I know its hard to see the good happening behind all this.. but we really are a new RED now. For the last couple years, Jim and I would give dates that usually turned out to be wild guesses from engineers. We have the smartest engineers on the planet ( seriously ) but they are the absolute last people one should ask the question "when".

Come the end of March.. Dates will be driven by manufacturing. Like it should be.

Thanks for the updates...

By the way, if anyone is in need of REDMotes, Touchscreens, SideHandles, etc... for short term rentals, let me know and we can see if we can go without ours if schedules allow...

Jarred, are matteboxes still behind? There was some confusion over my initial packing slip, starting to wonder whether my unit might have fallen through the cracks....

Not sure what happened with your order, but i do know the next batch of carbon fiber comes in on Valentines day, all Mattebox backorders should be cleared out within a few days after that.
