  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

I was wondering why I even needed to buy an EPIC X if the Scarlet s35 was going to have most of the features. minus the HDR an frame rates.
I'm very happy now that my investment is now safe again with the Epic X

This kind of comments are a shame. It is right the opposite what Red had promised in the beginning. Or perhaps what we thought Red actually was.

Well actually Jim,

sorry but I have a bit of respectful disagreement with current possible
choices, off course as we know everything can and will change, but..

"A" Stands for "Alpha" which is the dominant Male and therefor not a
good choice for the S35 Scarlett, were the actual dominant here is the
(currently) "M" Epic, not for the capacity but for the Hand made Machined
Craftsmanship and attention to detail unique only to this very few limited
models.

The Epic-X has always been for the Production Epic and should
remain so, but honestly I would rethink the "A" on the S35 Scarlet, and
the "M" on the Machined Epic, as it deserves a stronger letter then the
"M" known for "Medium" just MHO off course ;)
 
how about epic-silver (scarlet s35) epic - gold (epic) epic-platinum (machined)

Considering your S35 camera is now going to be called EPIC, thus putting you in the same ballpark as the people about to drop $58,000 on the EPIC-M... you should be laughing about the price issue. Just think about how much more legit/lucrative renting your Camera out will be when it's called EPIC LT vs. Scarlet S35

Wow, 24 hours later and we're still talking about the name? If we're going to spend so much time on nomenclature, let's at least get the basics right. Scarlet has one (1) "t"! :emote_headwall:

This reminds me of the whole controversy regarding Android versus iPhone, with people resorting to the kind of bashing reminiscent of my high school days to call the iPhone "girly and gay". You may get the impression, Tim, that the RED brand may have been designed from the beginning to appeal to a specific demographic composed of gun lovers, cheap light beer drinkers (no pun intended) and manly men who like to call others "sissies", but this is the real world now (a diverse one), and I, for one, applaud the "confidence" with which companies can create a brand around ideas like "mini" and "light".

Less is more these days (especially in the world of design and brand identity). Besides, this is a product intended for cinematographers and professional filmmakers, and it is the specs and the camera itself that will determine whether people buy it or not.

I think product naming is a legitimate conversation to have, and I agree that EPIC's line should be cohesive and easily understood by its potential customers (Apple is an example of this with its genius use of MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air), but to reduce it to a discussion about "sissiness" and "macho-ness" is simply... laughable.

EPIC LT is a good name...but that's not the main issue atm.

I'm afraid that most of ppl interested by the S35 can't afford anymore the brain: 7000 $ then 8000 $ (HDRx™) then 10 000-15 000 $ (EPIC LT) ?

I don't want to use an AF100 and its crappy codec.
 
Wait a minute. (Subject to change, I know), but according to this http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=501380&postcount=6 the Epic X was a special unit to be offered to current RED ONE owners while the Epic S35 was for the production model. I guess the Epic X is for everybody now. So, will there be a special titanium colored version for RED ONE owners? Would be cool. But, I can live with black if that has changed.
 
I would say some people have got nuts with naming Epic Light with other mostly "funny" names that doesn't fit to this camera at all.

Epic Light describes a lighter or even lightweight version that has slower frame rates and is limited with some other features that can be found in his big brother Epic.

So Epic Light is a perfect name for it.
 
please no epic-s epic-a epic-1.0

none of that.. way too confusing to have so many different names.. someone will screw up and order the wrong epic for rental, because the PA wont know what is what...


epic lite is fine
