The Group Buy wasn't cancelled because Teradek sponsors this forum,

Hahahah - All I can say is, being funny is one of your greatest strengths My Fella'
No hard feelings...

Mike seems like a nice guy.

It's not Teradeck's job to enforce US law, it's the FCC's. Sending (or even drafting) a C&D is straight up driven by a feeling that this is unfair competition, not about looking out for our best interests. Perhaps that's a legitimate stance, can't say without more information, but construing it as altruistic is disingenuous, and makes Teradeck look bad, apology or no apology.

I hope this gets sorted and the group buy gets reinstated. Not sure I'll purchase, but this reeks of heavy-handidness. Would have been much more respectable to be up front and non-aggressive.

Again, read my reply on the previous page. The Thor is not legally for sale in the US.

Also if the C&D letter was "never intended" to be sent, why was it ever written in the first place.

Good lesson here: this is a classic (bad) lawyer move. Identify a potential issue, draft something that will probably never see the light of day, bill the client for time spent on it. Most are smart enough to not actually send, though, so you have to check the bill closely...

I think the worst thing is not Mike nor Teradek reaction to this...

It's that Travis' thread was deleted without warning and without contacting him...

I think the moderator responsible for this should come forward and clarify his/her actions to him.

Not cool, really not cool at all.

The moderator was Jarred himself. Everybody has communicated with everybody within a few hours of all that happened. I agree the general order of operations here wasn't great, but again, there legal issues at play here. Protecting REDuser and the members of REDuser is a high priority in these situations. Sometimes that requires swift action. Especially when things happen late at night.

Phil you're totally right but Group Buys usually collect money toward the end of their cycle so it wasn't really an imminent threat to the community...

RED made the right move in deleting the GB as soon as the underlying problem was recognized.

Should there ever be any future litigation by the Feds or other entities, there would be depositions.
REDUser - and all of us - are better protected if there is no reason to explain a delay.

Depositions???

You see, I totally agree with Phil, Jarred and you in defending RU, but I'm not in deleting the thread altogether without warning or explanations.

This form of censorship plagued RU quite a bit in the past so I think it's actually VERY important to avoid this and to be as transparent as possible.

What about a clear closing post on that thread explaining the GB can't happen for legal reason and then close the thread instead?

Same protection but much better understanding of the issue for all the parties involved.

All valid points.

Communication is seldom perfect and the deletion versus closing is a good example.
I don't consider that censorship, instead, reactionary.

The idea of a "clear closing post" would have eased up on the tension and speculation.

That may not have been easy to do. As Phil has mentioned, there were a number of moving parts to sort through.
If RED were to post a statement on an issue like this, I suspect a legal team would have wanted a say in the wording.
That's never immediate.

It's a dirty business.

And I agree that some things went downhill for each company vitec bought. I'm sure some good stuff happened too.

There is definitely a line of Redusers with money in hand for some wireless video.

I just don't like the way Teradek handled the situation. Trying to squash sales as quickly as possible. It's one thing for the GB to get shut down, it's another thing when the culprit or spearhead/driving force was Teradek. Not cool.

Good timing for a Teradek group buy? Haha...that's funny right there.

Again Chris, this product is illegal to sale in the USA based on every piece of information presented. There would not be any sales, nor could it be supported here. I agree Teradek could have handled it in a more polite fashion among our tightly knit industry, but they have done what they could and this is much bigger issue than this group buy.

I'll go ahead say that I got a very aggressive cease and desist letter from Teradek saying that if I didn't pull this group buy, they were going to sue me into oblivion.

Looks like this thing is dead. Sorry to all. I was given complete and total assurance by Vaxis that their product was FCC compliant and legal in all aspects. I'm very sorry for wasting anyone's time.

Noooooooo............ :( Sorry to hear!

Darn lawyers spoiling everyone else's fun again :-/

Exactly. And the thread could always have been simply locked with a note "explanation coming in the morning after a sleep", rather than deleting it off the face of the earth forever without warning.

Exactly, close the group buy if you must if there are very valid reason.

But deleting a thread must pass a very very high bar! As a forum should go to great lengths of ever even having a whiff of censorship around what it does, especially a forum with reduser's history.

Appreciate the clear transparency on this Phil. Larger legal issues, protecting the RU brand / community, and a gentle nod to the late night oops we've all experienced.

I was in contact directly with Vaxis for this group buy so I could get it shipped before a feature in two weeks. I PayPal the money to them yesterday and have received a refund. Really bummed about this. I can’t afford equivalent kits that I need from Teradek at the moment, and to see that they were the ones spearheading this is really disheartening.
