Hi luigivaltulini ,

Thanks for your reply...everyone here wants to have the DRAGON as fast as possible and everyone also understand the effort the RED Team is putting up to release it as fast as possible...
Just waiting....I think it will be end November when things will start moving...Further I think sharing a response from your bomb squad on public forum is not a very good idea...Thanks
for the info anyway..

I dunno Harcharan... if they were going to start on Dec 1st they should start sending out emails a week or so in advance so they will have camera bodies on the table ready to receive the sensors (I suppose the boards are already on hand since there has been no mention of them being unavailable.)

My best guess is there will be no rush of cameras before the middle of December, at the very least. :-(

Hi

Thanks in advance...

Where did the 10 days to go come from??

I don't think we will see anything till next year. After all the hype at NAB, Red has been extremely quiet about this roll out and isn't even really showing anything yet...I find it hard to believe if they had something to show we wouldn't have seen it by now. Red has never come across as shy in their marketing.

I will say its the most bizarre product rollout Ive ever seen from any company on a product this expensive that is used for professional production. From the NAB "upgrade booth", to letting a couple users show footage from no budget productions (I think this hurt more than it helped), and now we are at the end of Nov and still not a peep. I think the competition forced Red's hand in a lot of ways and they are quickly playing catch up. I look forward to when the Dragon makes a proper appearance , until then Epic still makes some decent imagery.

I think where Harcharan is getting his optimistic 10 days is from Jarred's post here:

Our next round of sensors will be rolling out December 1st. This batch is much bigger than the last one, but unfortunately this does not mean everyone is going to be getting Dragons for Christmas.... The line is long and we can't make them as fast as we wish we could.

And while I do agree it's been a rather delayed launch, there was clearly work that needed to be done to the camera, the sensor, and the software. Some of which has been shared publicly through Reduser, some that likely has not. Other companies don't even discuss stuff like this far out and never share the path of what it takes to get there. However, Red's been a bit different about sharing their product development along the way, although it sounds like this will be changing soon.

Most of the early test shoots were exactly that and I wouldn't read much more into it than that. Personally I paid for my actor, artist, and studio (standard rates even) for my little test shoot because I wanted to get a nice look at the camera at that point and also share some nice finished footage and share some .R3Ds with the Reduser community. The earlier lens and calibration tests were also just exactly that and no footage was needed to be released honestly because it would have been exceptionally boring, although informative material.

There's been a couple top tier music videos shot on Dragon, with 3 more on the way. That JayZ video comes to mind as it shows off the dynamic range pretty well and even could be described as a stress test. As for feature films there's several that are still shooting as we speak. Those obviously takes longer to complete.

I actually poked Jarred about producing another "Tattoo" like shoot for Dragon at one point. With all of the stuff that's currently in production I do wonder if there's even a need for that.
