He brings his Epic... I doubt he will have any c300 or alexia's onboard.... Even if it's some what a lowlight condition for the shoot...

So soon with a bit of luck Epic has been deeper than any man except one... James Cameron. That is if he does not drop the camera on the floor in his little captain cockpit. Then epic has gone deeper :)

I sincerely can't wait for this and have been watching the trip's progress closely. I was a Cousteau Kid. Waited my whole life to see what's down there.

... The largest is a Red Epic, which will capture IMAX-quality, “5K-raw” images ...

Here we have it again: IMAX quality :) jut saying. Can't wait to see this!

James Cameron has the biggest cojones in the world - going down there alone he's recreating The Abyss for real.

Interesting

Does art imitate life or life imitate art? Seriously, this is pretty cool stuff. This is a serious dive which could end up being pretty spectacular. Can't wait to see results. I worked on some projects involving Robert Ballard and there's some very interesting stuff down there waiting to be discovered.

Wow Cameron sure dosent mess about in between making movies this is as real as it gets.

Interesting CNN story about Cameron's trip to the Mariana Trench at the end of March:

The CNN reporter, Jason Carroll, also rode along with Cameron on a test drive:

It's an incredibly brave and dangerous feat, but Cameron is saying he's not doing it for the $10 million X-Prize Foundation reward. I'm amazed that a guy this busy can take this much time out of his life to do this...

Heh heh heh... I was wondering when someone would pick up on this. :)

5K image may not be exactly "pure" IMAX quality (I remember someone said that horizontal 70mm IMAX neg is around 10K+ or close), but I bet it will look good blown up to a giant IMAX screen, much better than 1080p or 2K image. I seriously hope they using 5K sources for a Prometheus IMAX release too.
