  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Image flip (horizontal and vertical) is the one feature that I miss on my Dragon. Please provide it on the Weapon. You had it on the Red One.
Since I use a lot of steadicam it would make low mode a lot easier. The fastest way to get to low mode is just turning the sled around and leaving the camera upside down. So not only does the steadicam monitor needs to be flipped but all the set monitors. And most of them do not have image flip.
On a music video this can happen many times in a day.

Yes it will.. but this also works on your Dragon as long as you are using the new screens.

Jarred - Pretty sure Sergei is asking for HD-SDI horizontally and vertically flipped (all set monitors) - which is what I hear all the time - since almost all steadicam is wireless video transmitted, etc. Unless I missed something - I still can't flip HORIZONTAL SDI OUT on the Dragon. Only Vertical.

I already got one wish with the T3 mini XLR connectors. :)

Since we are chasing Jarred across posts, and he seems to be chasing us as well... I wish weapon continues to be able to have a side handle. For documentary filmmaking, and the kind of gun and run I can do with the Epic, operating from the side handle is a god send. I'm sure there will be a sidehandle... :)

I got a small add on to the flip flop request... This might sound odd but would be really nice.

As we shoot a lot of anamorphic stuff I would love to be able to do the following: roll the image output 90deg. and sqeeze it by a factor of 2....

Why you might wonder, well as at least the dragon sensor is about 2:1 in aspect I would love to be able to shoot with the ana´s turned 90 degres and get a full sensor anamorphic 1:1 output... I can do this already but the shit thing s that then the image is tipped over on the side on all the reference monitors...

So the cool thing would be to have the SDI out turned 90 deg and squeezed together to 1:1...

The canvas that´s is achieved is quite spectacular. basically anamorphic dragon square sensor full with...

If this is a wishing well i would add
4k uhd-sdi and hdmi out,
Built in electronic nd filter
Wireless video transmition built built in
A new ground breaking autofocus tool for easy focus tracking.
Actual useful 3axis sensor
Thumbnails
400-500fps
New sidehandle with built in wireless followfocus
Improved lowlight

I would love long exposure capability, the option to open it up to 30sec exposures for timelapse in camera would be amazing

The nature of the electronic shutter will not allow this but I can tell you that you really should consider frame averaging or summing. That is the way to go.

Wish list from wildlife doco standpoint (not in any order):
1. Built in ND (without motion mount) so I can switch mounts but still have ND.
2. 1,000 fps (or 500 fps if that's too much of a dream) - maybe not out of the box, but with possible future upgrades.
3. High ISO speeds that rival VeriCam 35 sensitivities.
4. sensor module / or some variation that allows for easy upgraded.
5. XLR inputs (mini xlr) on camera (looks like that may have happened)
6. Keep as tiny form factor as possible please - yup, I want it all :)
7. Full wireless control from a significant distance (redlink built in I guess is just that)
8. silent *** or at least way more quiet then it is now.
9. Internal focus control of Canon lenses with side remote that is removable from camera (like redmote but better)

Said it before but here's my list (of stuff that is invented):
1. LIGHTER BRAIN (carbon fibre) - DSLR weight or something that is comfortable to handhold for a long time
2. SMALLER or stay close to the current size. I'm not a shoulder mount fan. That's old school ENG. Make a module for those that want an Alexa style rig.
3. Built-in WIFI (including video and audio output...perhaps even wireless digital audio receive) - Wifi transfer of SSD and firmware upload would be cool too.
4. Built-in ND filters and global shutter (like motion mount but without losing a F-Stop). Be cool if OLPF was interchangeable too without screwing in/out.
5. Built-in mics and SPEAKER (for clip playback)
6. Cooler Brain (no fan if possible)
7. XLR module with audio controls - mini or full size
8. Playback menu shows thumbnail images of the clip as well as the name. Make changing/loading clips faster.
9. Release Version 2 of Redvolts or Redvolt XL that last longer, don't get hot and can be charged immediately (not wait till cooled). Also they hold their charge longer over the years.
10. Thinner cables (yes the past cables were heavy duty but is it necessary). Make thinner cables for monitors, timecode, etc.
11. Not major but add chroma key, stabilizing, tracking and maybe rotoscoping features to Redcine X.

Rumours/hints that I really like so far!
1. Legacy Module (or whatever it is called) so you don't have to have the connectors on the camera unless you need it (saving a lot of weight off of it and allowing for future modules/connectors like USB4 or HDMI 3 etc.).
2. Looks like there is mics in the front of the camera. - It would be nice if the mics were above the lens instead of near the bottom (as that's where the hand would go when handholding), may not work but be curious if possible.
3. Mini Mags to allow for smaller size
4. Carbon fibre!! Hoping it will be lighter and cheaper
5. YES!!! No Module Adapter needed moving forward!!

Only suggestion I have for Red is to look at what didn't sell over the years and what has low resale value. Companies lose money when inventory is too much and it becomes wasted cost of manufacturing, storage, and R&D. There's been a few duds. New round to try keep clean and simple.

Overall, it looks like I'm gonna love this new Weapon!

WiFi that lets you talk to a Redmote app on your iphone/android... And sends you/Clients a live video feed, like GoPro and DJI apps do..

My other hidden desires have already been said above, but ....

... not know if it has been said, and if it is technically possible to make inside the camera, but I would like an option to use the entire sensor for shooting (not necessarily high-speed) even if the final output from the setting is 6K or…2K

Filming on Epic in 3K for example, offers a poor image quality (in uncontrolled conditions) because of the crop factor.
It would greatly help the workflow (transcoding, lens and stuff), and certainly many ARRI followers would go to RED because they’ll have THAT RED QUALITY image using the entire sensor, BUT in 2K (in-camera) output.

Not everybody can work with 6K.

Do that, and ARRI will lose the first battle :) Arri mini will be released already obsolete.
