  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Want one... Need one now. That looks awesome

Revolts were great for keeping my camera helmet weight to a minimum. Im going to have to get busy in the gym and give my neck muscles a workout if I'm going to have to start jumping with V locks or XL's :-( - Please tell me theres a revolt solution further down the road for DSMC2 - Ever hopefull Nashy
wow, you guys have to make him something for this helmet cam!
is this for real jon?

Wouldn't a jetpack with some sort of belt clip (that takes smaller form-factor batteries) be better suited for this rig, rather than a module that situates the battery weight directly on your head?

Jon, if you need a helmet cam, I'd suggest using the Sidekick for Control, and the Jetpack for power and run a power cable through or along the helmet to your body to a V-mount plate with a slim V-Mount (or AB Mount of course). There are some relatively lightweight batterys with something like 75Wh - 90Wh out there now.

or use something like this (I believe there's a weapon version out there somewhere) and use fool control to set up the camera.

Yup its a real situation

Thanks Patrick and Nathan Iv'e looked in that but see below why i'd be cautious about the attached to my body power option.

Ha ha thanks Jordan :-)

LOL :-) Yes this is very much a real situation for me and a handful of other Skydiving cinematographers around the world :-) As you can see from the pics attached not everyone is adverse to using a body mounted power pack with a cable attached to the camera but I don't favour this route mainly because its one more element that could get in the way of my emergency procedures- I'll explain The problem I have with running a cable from the camera to a power back on my body is that in the event I have and parachute entanglement on deployment and I find myself having to use the quick release mechanism on my helmet to jettison my helmet and save my life or neck then I am adding one more obstacle in a life and death situation. If my parachute or lines get hooked up on my cumbersome rig then I need to get away from it the power cable could cause problems in this rare but real situation. For this reason I'd consider the XL module, it doesn't look ideal however but I'd be happy to test that option. Another option that Rory Hinds has been sharing with me - (Thankyou Rory) is perhaps going down the Lipo battery route. Iv'e attached some pics of other Epic and wild helmet set up from friends and colleagues around the world - this is our world and its why REVOLTS AND THE SIDE HANDLE have been so useful to us. For those interested and slightly off topic I had the pleasure of working on this Skydive Dubai shoot with arial cinematic guru Joe Jennings, which as Directed by Ketch Rossi andshot alongside fellow Epic operators Joseph Hutson and Tony Augustinack. I'm sure plenty of you folks have seen this. It was all shot on Epic MX when they first hit the streets. Joseph and Tony have since gone on to shoot the Iconic Jet man footage that has been going viral all over the globe. This is what we do - Long live the REVOLTS and Sidehandle in our skies

It was a hack. The battery is no way secure. You have to tape it down.

Hey Bob have you seen this? I had the idea it sort of clicks and secures on the XL module? Haven't seen it myself but would very much like to keep using my 15x Revolts that I use mostly on very light configurations... (most of the time)

Can't wait for this , was reaching for an invisible phantom side handle all day yesterday to adjust frame rates and such rather than putting my arm up and into the screen in the Hoodman.

miss my side handle so much ;)

Hopefully there's more interactivity that the red button and the dial. A joystick for the thumb and one or two additional buttons on the back?

"Siri... change my frame rates to 120" Perhaps in the next Fool Control?

That would be so cool - could use voice activation for control in my underwater housing.

I very much hope this comes with some kind of grip relocator, for shoulder and 1-man MoVI rigs.

The DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] Side Handle has more programmable keys and mounts to the side of the camera. It will likely be more expensive than the DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] Outrigger Handle, but you could essentially pickup and handle the camera in a similar way using both. It's just a matter of do you want more keys really.

I'm very interested to know what sort of camera control will be available with the new hand grip. Ideally I would run with a DSMC2 EVF and the new grip, and be able to zip through camera settings and menus with just those two (keeping in light and tight). Any word on whether this is possible, or will I also need a Sidekick to dig into all of the controls?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the new handle can rotate for best hand position, similar to the Canon cine cameras.

I'm pretty sure RT Motion is cooking up an awesome side handle too...

focus, pull slowly to a meter and a half now... :)

I think if they are smart they made the hande have some power connectors going into the grip part, then 3d part vendors could make their own powered handle with focus wheels etc.
