  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So you partnered with RTmotion and this is a wired controller that drives Canon lenses on my obsolete Scarlet MX as well?
And Foolcontrol is used to set functions and map different rotation ratios?
Still waiting to swap phone from 4s to 5 or 6
 
Foolcontrol is not used at all here.

foolcontroller proto box uses 2 x RTMotion knobs for iris / focus but could potentially work with other knobs. Box has few buttons and fisplay a menu on camera screen to setup direction, assign buttons...

Will let everyone know whenever something is ready for wider distribution, right now besides the unit I had at NAB we have soldered 2-3 more protos for rent in Paris at RVZ.

And for Focus? for power use Ronin (dtap-lemo)? or use Foolcontrol ?

how many minute you make with this configuration?

The side handle dont fit without counter weight. Also For weapon much better to mount the camera upside down / on the top of the camera as it gets the gravity point closer to the lens. And the Ronin Dtap works for focus, would be great if it could also power the camera but I heard that does not work.
 
What about the following setup:

Equipment

+ Epson BT 200 Glasses (resolution : 960 x 540. Think high res google glasses)

+ Myo forearm sensing control bracelet (see pics below) - That has an impressive array of tendon/ muscle gesture / motion input and can send control info over lower power Bluetooth (to an iOS app on your person)

+ Ronin M

+ Weapon CF + Jetpack + Wireless 1080p HDMI mini transmitter sending directly to the BT-200's control box (which is the size of an iPhone 6+). Not sure which is the most compact 1080p transmitter stick.

+ iOS app: Its GUI overlay is sent to the BT-200 control box as an overlay. It 'talks' to the Weapon SDK with minimal controls needed for Gimbal use. Input from Bluetooth / Myo to give gesture to navigate & control (maybe to control Canon EOS focus?).

What would you see?

+) You would look out of the Goggles, and see a what the camera can see on a virtual screen 5 meters in front of you.
+) The chosen RED SDK controls could be overlaid for metrics that you need
+) Gestures could be used to control the SDK without having to take your eye off while you are recording.

Pros

+) No need to try and stare at a 7" monitor that is attached to the Gimbal as it moves
+) No weight to carry monitor (the Glasses weigh 80g .. the control box + iphone can go behind you)
+) No need to look down at a control surface during filming

Misc Power Tech

+) Is there any way of getting power to the Jet Pack wirelessly? I read on a Sony forum that the EPIC uses 55 Watts. Not sure if the is with / without screen. If the 7.0" touch screen is 5.5W ... Could that mean the Weapon runs at 49.5 Watts or less?

+) Rezence has already certified company products. Their standard is for up to 50 watts. http://www.rezence.com/media/news/a...-50-watts-include-tablets-pcs-and-peripherals

+) The main battery weight would then go on your back. Small battery in Ronin 1/6 the size that lasts for 1 hour - that charges up when the Weapon is not recording. When recording, all wireless power is channeled through Ronin Handles to Weapon buffer battery that can last 5min unassisted.

Hi guys,

As has been discussed on the forum earlier the Red epic/scarlet/dragon/weapon is a top heavy camera since the lens mount is a few inches from the bottom of the camera.

Thus when using on the Ronin-M (as seen at NAB). You need to add weight UNDER the gimbal cradle to lower the CG in order to balance. At Nab they had the big LiPo battery under the cradle.

In fact you have similar problems with alot of other cameras on the Ronin-M also due to the very short tilt arms on the R-M. If you using a Canon 1DC with a quality glass you even run out of tilt arm adjutment. C300 also.

The other solution also discussed on the forum earlier is to mount the camera upside down. which can be challenging depending on your top plate hole configuration. Also The FAN and the circulation of air works better in upright mode as it was designed to sit.

That's why my company that some of you already know for our many Ronin accessories has released the Ronin-M Tilt arm extension.

This fixes all your top heavy camera issues. Basically a "must have" for any Red User.

Simply screws on and off in seconds.

Wanted to make the community aware of this new solution that has a direct impact on the usability and flexibility of any RED camera setup on the Ronin-M.

+1 this question. For those who purchased the Freefly side-mounting V-mount hardware, obviously Weapon Sidekick, if attached, makes this impossible. But I was hoping that there would be some way to repurpose the mounting hardware from Freefly.

Ultimately I'd be willing to scrap my Freefly hardware if I could use the V-mount batteries directly on the back of the weapon, in series with the base expander. Does anyone have an idea if original Ronin will allow clearance for this Weapon configuration?
 
+1 ... the Weapon expander seemingly renders the V-lock (such as the ET sol'n) out of scope. What is the ecosystem for gimbal operators who need the Expander outputs whilst powering their cam (and likely wireless transmitters etc.) with V-lock batteries?
 
Hey Guys,
some have news of how to feed the Weapon with Jetpack Expander on DJi Ronin?
 
with a side V-Mount Plate it would be possible.
