Yes, you're right...we have some time before Weapon upgrades start happening. And it will take some time to work through all the upgrades. But I think everyone who has already invested in Dragon is trying to figure out how to get their hands on Weapon as soon as possible.

There is a significant strategic (and economic) advantage in having the latest technology first. This is true whether you are an owner/operator that uses your equipment as leverage to obtain work, or a rental house that is in competition with others, or someone who wants the best possible image quality available for a particular project. Not to mention that you have the best chance of successfully getting return on your sizable investment if you have a longer period of usable time to work with.

And that is the question. Arri will surely introduce a new camera at NAB, available very soon, not the mini, a new one. We will need Weapon soon.

No we don't, our Dragons are super new still and competitive with what Arri has on the market and what they are introducing...

But having Weapon first can't hurt financially I'd imagine.. Same can be said of Mini or what else they are releasing though, I happen to know a thing or two about it and I am not worried is all I am saying..

Alexa xtt 6k 35mm.
I think that will attract quite a few studio productions that need to deliver 4k.

"Everything you can do I can do 2-7 years later. All the while describing the direction we're going one day and where you have been before as utter nonsense, though long ago we sort of described why it was so very important in the first place. Better still we've bred a perspective, brand, and mindset that makes what is important and relevant sound stupid even though we need to find a way to make it not sound so preposterous. But don't worry. We wrote some papers and developed tech long ago that sort of put us on this path anyways."

I'll quote an engineer from a competing camera company as we did some side-by-side testing with Dragon fairly recently as I showed him the menu system:

"That Dragon, it is like from the future."

Ah the giggle. It cuts deep.

Back to eating my Chipotle and making this insane deadline. nom nom nom.

I think so too, I've been saying for a long time that if Arri do release a 4K or 6K camera with Alexa sensor tech it would be the primary camera used globally.
But the problem with Arri is the price. What I get with a Dragon, just being able to own one myself is something Arri will never be able to give customers. There's a freedom and flexibility with owning your own gear and however Dragon is "inferior" to Alexa XXT 6K it is still enough to give you the tools to create beautiful movies. There's not much difference now between the two, except the extreme price of the Arri cameras.

Am I really one of the only people who happens to think that Dragon actually looks BETTER than Alexa? I never said that about MX.

All they have to do is clean up that lower end and it is done.

You're not the only one. I did things with Dragon in December through February that I've never been able to do before. In a few months that footage will be out and I can talk a bit about it, but it's some of the best color I've ever grabbed with a camera.

I do think that Dragon delivers better than Alexa footage. The first time I booted my Dragon I was impressed by the color.
That alone is incredible. Then you have RedCode, which I love since 2008.
I feel that with Dragon I have infinite looks, not so with the Alexa. As a colorist I'm tired of the Alexa/Cooke look, everything looks the same.

Totally agree. I think Dragon looks better than Alexa. The highlight retention is so strong you can make stuff look like its made out of plastic depending on how you light and grade it. Alexa highlights are beautiful but always on the mushy side. 1 dimensional.

Remember Weapon is still a Dragon... it sits at the top of the Dragon Family. Scarlet Dragon, Epic Dragon, Weapon Dragon.

How do we trick or bribe Jarred? A new pair of flip flops perhaps. He's being tricky and cunning this info. Hmmm. most perplexing this Weapon is.

Hello Jarred,

Here is One Question.

Will the Dragon Sensor have more usable Dynamic Range and particularly Highlight Latitude when it is paired with the WEAPON?

That is a great one question.. And yes it will. Weapon squeezes just a little bit more out of the Dragon sensor.
