  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WARNING: Don't upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.2... Unless you like broken .r3d files.

WTF? Was planning to upgrade this week as I don't have any longer term projects in progress right now. Wonder what's biting them?

Trying to wait for the mMP, but would pick up an iMacPro (10c/64GB/Vega64) in a hot second if the right gig booked.

Big thanx to the early adopter iMacPro peeps for all your beta te___ , I mean congratulations on your new bling!

Cheers - #19

Works fine with FCP X and Redcine-X Pro, I am using a trashcan. 10.13.4 beta

Full Metal Mac-it

Currently running HS 10.3.1 on a 2015 rMBP w/2GB AMD Radeon R9 M370X GPU. Stability has been poor overall, but have not seen the issues noted above.

MacRumors forum folk are foaming at the mouth for 10.3.4 to come out of beta (4th seed just released). Lots of complaining about Metal(2?) implementation. I hope Apple doesn't lose sight of the value of their reputation for ease of use (deserved or not, plenty of other places to argue that ;-), thanx).

FWIW, over the years, moving to a more advanced graphics language has never been pain free. That said, if it takes too long to get it optimized..., doesn't play nice with major S/W packages, doesn't dramatically cut render times..., doesn't support large rasters at high refresh rates without another dev cycle..., etc - ouch. With VR/4K/8K in the pipeline, the viewing shift to mobile getting juiced when 5G deploys/etc the value of an efficient graphics architecture that leverages newer processing and co-processing topologies is huge. Will Apple devote the engineering resources needed to do it well - and quickly?

Just updated to Davinci 14.1 and it renders very fast on 2013 3.7 quad core 64gb trash can .Yeah!

Thanks,
Tim

Running latest High Sierra beta and 50.2 RCX.

iMac Pro 10 Core + Vega 64 + Rocket-X will just barely do 8K full delayer real time. Lose the Rocket and you’re looking at 1/4 res.

I updated to High Sierra 10.13.3 and R3D support for OpenCL in Resolve is fixed.

Chris -- All well and good ... but ! If you have an external GPU and a ThunderBolt2-only Mac, you could find that under High Sierra you have
lost eGPU capability. This is the current "Urban Legend," I haven't tried High Sierra & and sticking with 10.12.6 so I can use my eGPUs on
my 6,1 MacPro.

Can anyeone substantiate or discredit the above Urban Legend ?

FWIW --
Serge
