  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

WARNING: Don't upgrade to High Sierra 10.13.2... Unless you like broken .r3d files.

Anyone has better luck with the iMac Pro? iMac Pro is shipping with High Sierra. I'm about to receive mine in 2 days.

iMac Pro is not affected by this issue. It's only the pre-Vega generation AMD GPUs.

Good note. Have been a increasingly worried that the iMac Pro I have on order would follow suit. That’s a big investment just to have an out of the box issue.

A tad more excited to know that I’m dodging a short term (hopefully) bullet.

Does this phenomenon also affect exports from RedCineX to Pro Res? RCX became crashy for me around the time of this update, and exports are now very slow.

Late 2013 Mac Pro
8-core
64 GB Ram
AMD 700's
10.13.2
RCX 50

yes

Thanks! I did find a thread dealing with this in the RCX section. Is there some workaround for this that I'm not thinking of?

Options:

1. Revert to 10.13.1
2. Wait for 10.13.4, hope it is fixed.
3. Wait for an RCX update
4. Put up with slower than normal tanscode times
5. Find a windows machine

6K Hellum raw files working for me in GM release of 10.13.3 High Sierra from Jan 23rd.

Does Apple actually want to keep any of the professional clients?

I updated OS because they had some major and stupid security issues that needed to be addressed.

Purposely making iPhone battery life die, very sloppy work going on. But could be worse I guess...

How stable is 10.13.4? I have a backup, but I've never used a beta before, so it has me nervous. Still, I'm so sick of using Metal at this point, I'm willing to try anything.

How about Dragon and MX? Resolve Studio 14(latest)?

Guess I should really setup a separate Mac just to test releases instead of wasting time on forums :001_rolleyes:

Another reason (As Best As I Can Tell) to be cautious about upgrading to any version of High Sierra is that Apple MAY BE deprecating support
for External GPUs via ThinderBolt 2. eGPUs may be supported only via ThnderBolt3. Ponder this for a moment or two .....

Can't be 100% sure if this is true .. anyone like to second source this info ?!
Tx,
Serge

Ditched the 2013 Mac Pro. I’m now on an iMac pro.

I'm now on 10.13.3 and working with red files in resolve... here's how:

My system admin updated to the newly released Pro Video Formats... you have to sign up for their Beta Program to access the options... it's on Developer.apple.com
