  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

VOGUE + RED+ Bottega Veneta NEW EXPOSURE CONTEST

Time to whip out the H4D :)

Perfect timing; I've got a series of video fashion shoots this weekend in Chicago. I was hired to operate a D50, but I brought my Scarlet just in case. I've never shot fashion stills before, though. I guess I just go wide open, fastest shutter speed I can get away with, and extract the best looking stills?

So, looking at the rules, our submitted portfolio doesn't need to knowledge the clothing designer, model, or LD? Or include signed releases?

What??? I can't enter anyway but this is getting confusing...

Can be either or... and doesn't need to be RED. The top 10 then are given RED camera loaners ( if they don't already have them ) to shoot a loosely guided project for the win.

Of course you can only enter RED footage. It is a RED contest.

My bad... I guess the top 10 then get to shoot RED to make the finals.

1st I don't have a Epic Yet.. :(

2nd Ketch rossi is not going to be able to use a 80 MP camera.

He he, don't worry Brett, I will not be entering,l really can't, on my way to Wellington NZ, have so much work it would be crazy for me to take off more time ot enter this contest...

Even so I admit that there is nothing I wanted to do more right now... ;)

But I would not use a MF 80MP camera either if I was to enter, I just came to LOVE too much the fill and way of shooting with EPIC... that all I want is more resolution for the EPIC not go back and shoot Stills... ;)

Why this is not an international contest or at least also for red international Epic , scarlet owner? Red is international and Vogue also .
This is really Unfair !!!

Thank the lawyers.. or more so contest rules dictated by each country... not Vogue Or RED's decision. To have an international contest.. the legal fees just to set it up to accomodate with laws from each country would be so cost prohibitive it would cost many, many times the prizes let along all other costs involved.

Thank you for the xplaination Jarred , even if it s clear and i do understand , this is very frustrating :)

I agree.. it pains my heart. So many talented guys and girls out there outside the US that its a shame you guys are restricted.

This makes sense. You identify the top talent based on their skill, not camera choice and then see what they can all do with a level playing field, i.e. RED cameras. Looking forward to the results. I think this is the first time a RED camera has been given away correct? Very cool idea. Someone is going to be very happy at the end of this.

Exactly.

Wait.. I thought this was just a chance to shoot with Epics.. Not actually win one. Maybe im reading this wrong Steve.

And if you havent shot editorial for major fashion magazines, they are not going to represent you no matter how "good" your photos are.. The fashion industry is more competitive than the motion picture biz, and the rates paid to photogs are much higher than to "DP's. When I was shooting back in the 90's, the rate to shoot JCrew was 3500 per day, plus expenses. Talbots, a lesser catalogue was 2500.and these were 8 hour days..

1) About the panel "mentorship..." I think it's about getting your work in front of good people, just the chance to hear a bit of advice. You're right, you're not getting a Vogue cover or representation out of this, but it's the chance to move in that direction.

2) Rates are now quite a bit higher. Editorial is all exposure and rep, advertising w/ usage deals will pay for a few Epics in a few days...

3) I cannot wait, cannot wait to try for this. If one works with a partner--Mert and Marcus, Inez and Vinoodh--can we submit a portfolio together?
