  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm not one to add gaz on the fire, but the VF website has no mention besides an outdated "backordered until november 26th", and Redmodz lists a factory parts qty shipping to VF calendar... Anyone knows what is the "expected" date of delivery for a R1 kit ordered today? There's over a thousand posts here (congrats to VF's success) but I can't still figure it out, and like Leo's wise words, I don't want to freeze my money too long...

I'm thinking I will wait until (a) units are in wide distribution, and (b) any problem reports have been cleared up before I place an order. This looks like it's going to be an awesome product, and my hat is off to ViewFactor for pulling it off at this pricepoint -- I have tremendous respect for those guys and all the challenges/adversity that they have endured. That said, if I've learned one thing from this thread (and the Birger thread), it's to not commit any of my own money until the product is actually shipping. :)

Cheers,
Tim

FYI... the bluetooth modules are on there way to us... I haven't got the tracking number but the supplier said they were sending them out this evening. On another note, we have been assembling motors for a solid week and have close to 100 units ready to go with the exception of programming/run-in. We have noticed that about 40-50% of the 500 sets of parts have severe cosmetic flaws where the PVD plating did not fully cover the exterior of the body. We are hand picking the ones that look the best but I think were going to run low on perfect parts when we reach 200 units. I have sent an email to our supplier asking for replacement parts but I'm not sure when we will receive them - based on their track record I'm not holding my breath. That being the case I am contemplating having them send us non-plated parts and having the plating applied here in the states. I think its going to be very difficult to get the same finish so Black anodized may be something that we will have to look at. Just giving you guys a heads up to whats happening.

We will be soldering the bluetooth modules tomorrow (assuming I see a tracking number sometime this evening) and will have close to 100 Imperos up and running this weekend. I am hopeful that we can get almost half of the orders out in the early part of next week but as many of you know I am terrible with my predictions. All I can say is things are looking good and I'm excited to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and move on to finishing other projects such as Mirus and a few other goodies that will show up at NAB.

In the photo of the kit the reciever is under the Impero. The receiver is free unless someone get the bright idea to lose one ;)

Thanks for pointing this out. I had a momentary lapse where I felt like there was a curious hole in this system. Glad to see it (the receiver, not the hole in my skull). And I had seen that post by Chris with the ET clamp on it, so now I really know I'm nuts. Pre-NAB development will get to you that way.

Here's more proof of the elusive receiver unit... it took me all of 15 minutes but at least you guys can see that things are alive.. I'l have Josh put something together this weekend that is more thorough (and professional). As you can probably tell the noise is much better than before - the camera was only 1-2 ft. away from the motors and its barely audible doing medium speed movements. It gets louder when doing crash zoom type stuff but I'm happy where it is now. Keep in mind that I filmed this in the middle of a debug session trying to clean up the homing routine to take less time -the motor is not tuned to its standard values hence the little jump after calibration.

eminently... good....

You can go ahead and ship that one to me. :)

...Bummer about the situation with the coatings. Hopefully that can be resolved to keep the same or very similar and not have to go to ordinary black anodizing.

Great news about the coatings...especially as i am in the mid 200's. But really, after all this time having the parts it is now that they have been noticed. Faarrrk...hoping this next delay isn't going to be months.

The plating on these is wierd. When received they look very shiny and bright, almost like a light grey anodize. After cleaning them the coating changes color to the dary gray you see in the photos we have. We received the first 50 parts in December, the remaining 500 came in Janurary. He had not gone through all 500 parts when we received them. 500 of these bodies cover an area about 20'x20' on the floor if laid all out. Thats a lot of time to inspect and we figured it would be easier to go through every one as we started assembling.

Those Chinese factories aren't exactly know for their outstanding quality and finish ... :-(

Curt, you haven't been so great on the predictions, (quoting you), but I bet your product will make us forget about all that when we get it in our grubby little fingers. We know you are working very hard at this.

Iam not so fuzzy about black anodizing I personally dont care.
Maybe you should look at more colour options its not a big deal. but black is fine.
Iam very happy for you that everything has been shorted and your nightmare is close to an end.Can you send me someorder number of my unit too?
thanks

I just need the equipment to work!!! It could be pea green and I wouldn't care. I have no more faith that these units will be shipped in 2 weeks or two months. This has certainly taught me a lesson. I'll never pay full price for anyhting that isn't ready.

This is crazy!!!

Anyone who thinks that this is acceptable should never run a business.
