  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The way for me for to wait it NOT to think about it and keep myself busy on something else...that works on me and not sure for how long.

Anyway,i dont want to think about it. So let it be...

Maybe you could be busy using your full/real name?

If i'm not using realname, I'm banned from here long time ago. Nothing to be busy with on this thing and certainly not busy enough to keep my eye away from this.

I dont think any of them are out with the upgraded antennea.
Mine works great wired wish it would stay callibrated when switching
from wired to wireless but i know curt said he was working on that, so in
time.

The motors have a great amount of torq and when run off of D-Tap they are super
responsive.

I am very happy with the whole system and love the fact the hardware is all there and will only inprove with time as they take advantage of it with firwareupgrades, just like RED did.

Because it doesn't have an antenna !!
It doesn't suck at all but it has a short range
and it is not bulletproof this not ready for certain jobs
Were the VF units you saw at NAB fitted with the antenna

I know I shouldn't but I can't help myself - told you so

Never said they sucked quite the opposite we really like these motors. Without the antenna they are not reliable for certain jobs but at a limited range they worked well Were the units at NAB fitted with antenna?

Fredric we have a very specific car rig we needed our system for our current production and we are thrilled I'm not sure what you told me so about we are fully aware of the systems limitations and look foreward to our new unit with the antenna

I'd like to point out that I'm in no way saying that the VF would be bad of any kind.

I'm referring to when I told the people who believed that it would be enough with a 50ft range. That they would be sorry if they believed that. In some ways it's nice to hear confirmation of this so early (for my selfish reasons) but I'm of course sorry for what ever trouble it may have caused anyone (even though I don't think it has caused you any problems just grief that you can't use it more). Personally I'm patiently waiting for this product to be ready and have a lot of trust in that it will be great.

Let's just say that my current unit doesn't really work further than, oh let's say 6ft. But here's what's frustrating... it's very random to when it will drop the connection. Sometimes I can go 20ft away and it will work just fine for a few mins. Sometimes I will stay within 6ft and it will randomly drop. I can not for the life of me figure out the reasons for it dropping. Even in wired mode I have found quite a few bugs which I believe Curt is working on. I feel this system is very much like the RED. Give Curt a little more time to work out the bugs and it will be a great, cheaper system.

Firmware update coming?

Firmware update coming?

At Viewfactor's NAB booth (oblig video link), I recall hearing something about a firmware update to solve some bugginess. Perhaps that's something we'll see in the very near future for those who's units have shipped.

As an aside, having seen the units at Cine Gear, and then now at NAB, I can say the look to have come a long way. I think once the minor bugs are worked out it's going to be an incredible remote solution...

I hope there is a new firmware upgrade because i find the unit unusable. The distance is bad, but not the worst thing. It looses connection, has problems calibrating and that's just the wireless connection. The motor is a whole other set of problems. It's much noisier than any other motor I've used as well as it can't move very fast. Do a rack focus and wait 2 seconds for it to reach its mark. Luckily on a shoot yesterday the grip truck had a Bartech on it. It worked flawlessly. It's extremely frustrating to get ready to shoot and then loose connection with the VF and have to go through another half an hour trying to reestablish connection and calibration. At that point we had to scrap the VF system all together. It never actually worked on the day. I feel at this point that it is unusable. I'm sorry to say it, because i like Curt and I wanted to like the system.

Not in Vegas myself, but I have seen a photo (by Matt Duclos) of a sweet 3D rig using 2xR1's each with a Angenieux zoom driven by VF motors connected to a single reciever, in turn connected to a single FF.

Here's some pix I shot of Curt setting up a dual Inclino system on the RED 3D rig. It was great seeing them synchronized by one receiver and one Imperio.

one more of this one and i am going to cancel

Um, aren't the only units in the field currently, using the integrated wireless and NOT the newer antenna based wireless? I'm pretty sure early reservation holders had the option to wait for new antennas or take the first beta revision to help iron out the bugs?

These are in BETA guys. So complaining about a beta unit you accepted with that caveat is a bit silly IMHO. How about reserving judgement until the final units are in the field?

Cheers,

Paul
