  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Thought this was cool. Josh took a photo or two..

It will be even cooler when it starts to work.
Question:
As far as the diameter of the gear, have you tried it with all the lenses in the market (Cooke, Arri etc) to see that it is big enough so motor it self doesn't touch the housing when you mount it on either sides of the lens (camera right and left)?
Or do you have gears in larger diameters?

It certainly wasn't a threat, Jay, but it is something I'll be doing. I have had exactly zero luck getting anyone from View Factor to answer even one simple question. It does not matter how I communicated (email, their web form, phone calls, PMs), the silence was always deafening. If I had a Ouija board, I'd try that, but it's against my religion.

For me, I think a big beefy motor will be just fine! After all I need one to turn my big lenses 12:1 & 10:1! But I am sure my steadicam guys will whine so...

I do have to ask, dose anyone know:

Will the Imperio work with other motors?

Curt/John?

I just want the damn thing already! hehe Have you got the parts yet, and do you guys think you'll be shipping them out this week or next week? Have you not received the final parts yet, or is there something wrong with them? I need this piece of gear badly...

I haven't heard back from 2 e-mails either and we're in the first 30.

I am #7 and had not heard from VF, so I contacted them and with me I agreed to wait for the antena before shipping as it is nearly ready so maybe they are hoping to save $$ and wait till this week to ship all of the first 30.

Cheers, Tim

Hello. I dont want to upset anyone here, but the photo that was originaly posted on the red and steadicam is shot from an angle that the motor looks huge, and so these last photos look funny specially the 3rd one that the complete red package looks smaller than a human head and the lens is smaller than his ear.Stefen Iam a steadicam op too , I think your worries about motor weight and reciever isnt right ,if you have a weight issue then you would have it with most remote ff on the market today. As for the size, the motor is a bit bigger than the heden, but you can give varius angles to the mounting of the inclino so you have no prob fitting it on a prime, even fit 2 for f and iris.As for zoom lenses they are so much bigger I dont think it will be a prob.
You say you fly an action cam , which model would that be, the rebel, the zero-g, the red model, which one?If you fly any of the new models with the zero-g arm and you have weight issues all youve got to do is add some springs and make your sled a bit longer. Brian at action products is known of his fine craftmanship and modularity of his rigs, as for the huge amount of weight capacity his arm structure can carry.
I dont think a VF motor is your issue here man. the motor can be mounted in many configurations. As for the service and tech support that has to be judged after everything is settled and running. Then again its your money your choice.

Motor on a standard Speed prime.

I see another problem here.
The focus gear on the motor is way to small in relate to the motor.
Curt have you checked the size of them with MP UP and Cooke?

Constantine, I hear you, but I do have the RED Edition Actioncam.

With my RED, an 85mm Nikon lens, the monitor, a drive, the battery, a top mount to allow me to "get a handle on it," and my Redrock follow-focus and filter, I'm very close to the weight limit of the RED Edition. Yes, new springs can be ordered, but they are over $1000. Yes, I could strip off the top handle, but that would be a serious risk to me in handling the camera. Yes, I could buy a new mattebox, but that's thousands more.

Nope, it is way better for me to switch to the Birger now that it is essentially released, and then use the Canon lenses. I'll keep a few of my favorite Nikons (like the 85mm) and use them with a Nikon-to-Canon adapter.

This was the way I had hoped to go from the very beginning, but Birger was ludicrously slow in delivery and I (incorrectly) assumed that View Factor would be much quicker. Shame on me.

Anyway, thems be the goods.

The motor may not be the lightest but on the other hand the receiver is only a couple of ounces. Compare this to the competition. This in an overall configuration makes us lighter overall.

I believe that 85mm Nikon is a 67mm thread. You could get screw on filters and a screw on lens shade and really shed some weight from your rig. Also cards instead of drive. Isn't the redrock mattebox kinda big for a steadicam? Just suggesting some alternatives.

Yeah, my Nikon 85 1.8 is 62mm. A guy could probably go with the lens shade that comes with them. Or screw on filters and make a tiny mattebox from foam core. The RedRock is a lot of mattebox for a steadicam.

The Cokin Z-Pro holders can be used for 4x5.6" filters on SLR lenses.

I like that Cokin suggestion for hand-held, Nils. . . great idea. . .

BUT. . . I actually need a lot of mass for my Actioncam rig. . . I'm not the best steadycamer around, and when it gets too light and not spread out (front to back), it makes side to side errors so much harder to control. The trouble is that it can't get too heavy.

My decision is made. . . I had long thought of going with the Birger, and now I shall.
