  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Upgrade Paths

I know I'll get laughed out of the building here but... here goes.

In the spirit of transparency do you think it would be even remotely possible for Brent or someone to post who is next on the list for Scarlet orders? Like a timeline of when we might expect to get our cameras.
For me it's the not knowing that messes with my head. Every morning I get up and hope beyond hope that I get an email saying my camera will be here tomorrow or next week or something. Even if i find out my dealer won't likely get their shipment until Thanksgiving at least I'd know and could relax about it.

I know we likely won't get that information but it never hurts to ask, right? Or does it?

That would be unprecedented.

From past post (and my own interpretation) this how it works:
Say (on a given day) 100 sensor makes it out of the oven and they have a 100% yield rate (at sensor level QC), then that 100 goes to building section and gets inserted into bodies which moves to another QC (camera level QC) and gets another 100% yield, then 100 cameras will get allocated the day after the final QC.
However, let's assume RED builds a whole lot more sensors than 100 a day, the real factor then becomes, what exactly is the demand level, I bet no company will offer you that answer, that's just as good as asking for their accounts.

I bet if you have good communication with your rep, and with good understanding that you won't use their rough estimate as a yardstick to measure their efficiency, nor publicly hold them to that timeframe (even on RU), I think they can help you set an expectancy timeframe which in my experience has been fairly accurate. As much they don't have (or are not expected) to have the full picture, they have a unique skill of reading the "bloodlines" within the system. Think of them as you would of someone that understands the traffic flow of a city they've lived in for a long time. They know how to read and judge the pulse.

I'm certainly not looking to set RED up for any sort of liability or anything like that. I'm anxious to shoot just like all the other Scarlet guy are.
Guess I'll take my A7Rii and a couple Milvus lenses out. That should hold me over for a day or two. Maybe. :)

I didnt realise that not only do we have a December 31st deadline but Red could fulfill all camera orders (whilst stocks last) and remove the upgrade path before then.
I never realised that the upgrade path would be so short lived. Only had my epic dragon two years and that could be that....
My plan was to upgrade to CF weapon and then the sensor but three months isnt enough to raise all that money.

I promise you... That would create more hostility than comfort.

I am *GUESSING* (and hoping) that we will get something of a heads up if any upgrade path is to close before 12/31. But I am planning to keep my eye on things very closely. Like a lot of folks, I am not yet in the perfect position to go Epic-W but aI also don't want to miss the opportunity if I can avoid it.

Well in this 11th October trade in you could also trade in your old red one that was said to be not upgradeable long ago.. so I doubt that this will be the first and last chance if you got a dragon camera. But possibly, or more likely the deal change after dec 31. But thats only my guess.

If I remember correctly Jarred sold a bunch of used red ones for 4000USD not to long. And now for the same cameras I think they offer 10k in trade in, if I remember correctly. Which I must say is possibly the best upgrade deal I heard of lol.

Just wondering if anyone else is still waiting for a response from their rep? I'm in Canada, emailed and phoned my rep two minutes after the Epic announcement. Been crossing my fingers he got the message.

Hi Darren... I'm in Vancouver and have made contact and exchanged info with my rep at FusionCine - an official Canadian Red dealer. It looks like they're waiting for batch #2 and it could be 2-4 weeks out. Your rep might be backed up with customers. Fusion (here in Vancouver) took calls immediately and responded to emails within a day.

Thanks Edwin. Is FusionCine honouring the 10k discount for Scarlet-W deposit holders?

Anyone have an idea when upgrades for MG/CF/Forged Weapon owners will be asked to send in their cameras for upgrade to helium? I already paid the $15K to convert my MG to the Weapon Helium.

Sam I was told we wouldn't have to pay the full amount until the camera was ready to be sent in for the upgrade. So did you have to pay the full amount already?

Forged weapon owners that have VV deposts will begin upgrades next week.

Jarred is it true we have to pay the money upfront, The website seems to indicate that we would not be charged the full amount untill we sent out camera in for the swap

Hey Jarred,

I noticed that the Helium sensor upgrade for the Weapon CF is priced at around $5k. For those of us who paid $10k for 8K VV and end up deciding we don't want VV after putting the Helium sensor in our camera, is there any kind of rebate or store credit for the price difference? Only asking out of curiosity, not trying to sound ungrateful or anything. I am super appreciative of the opportunity to use Helium while we wait for 8K VV!
