  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Update......

Thank you for the update Jarred!

How will the 8ks be allocated? Time stamp of 8k order, order in which you received your 6k Weapon, Forged first, or some combination there of? While you probably won't share the batch size, is it at least double digits? :)

The magnesium deal seems like something many will want. I bet many would be happy if you made it all aluminum, if it lowered the price even further.

O back to the Magnesium upgrades for a second... I have a question for all of you in that upgrade line. I have a proposal for you guys straight from our manufacturing team. We can shave a few grand (3k-5k) off the price if we switch some of the internals to aluminum instead of magnesium.. The outside pieces will still be made out of magnesium so you will still inherit the weight savings but some of the internals we have an opportunity to gain a lot of efficiency in manufacturing and save you some cash.. Magnesium is stupidly cheap to cast but incredibly expensive to machine and it’s just not getting any cheaper or easier even with the increased volumes or the more that time goes by. I thought I would give you all a vote.

Wow - that sounds like a great offer Jarred. If that was the case, then I think a number of people would jump at MG Weapon. You guys are just awesome!!!

When will the 8K Upgrade ordering begin again and do you have a price for it?

I personally would like to jump from Epic Dragon to Weapon VV, any ballpark price / timeframe on what that maneuver might be?

If I could save 5k by having aluminum inside, that would most likely get me to upgrade my dragon.

Hey Jarred, will that $3-$5k off be inherited by new purchases or only for the upgraders (in other words, were you only asking upgraders because they've already paid for an all-Mg chassis)?

In both cases, I can't imagine a scenario where people wouldn't do it... Seems like ~$4k off with no discernible change to the end-user or operating experience!

If Mg Weapon was 3-5k cheaper I would have upgraded to that instead of Epic Dragon from my Scarlet Dragon some months ago. I've since invested money elsewhere, but still think the features and improved image quality on the weapon are something I'd like to upgrade to somewhere down the line, and that price cut would make it happen sooner and with more confidence.

So are there any downsides? Would anything change in cooling the camera or power/performance? Seems like to me its, "Pros: $3k-$5k less per camera & quicker delivery of Mg Upgrades. Cons: None." Am I missing anything Jarred? Seems like a no brainer. As long as the camera performs and is well built, I don't care what the internals are made out of.

Hello Jared,

PLEASE, yes, to saving $3 to $5k by using aluminum internally. Great idea indeed.

I'm not ready for a Weapon upgrade yet, but I counter-propose an ALL Aluminum Weapon (not just inside) if that will be even cheaper to produce, but with the same processing power (300 MB/s) as CF Weapon.

A $5k drop in the Weapon upgrade price from Epic Dragon would start to make a lot more sense for pulling the trigger... especially with Ravens on the way. That starts to be an interesting combo.

My plan had been to stick with the Epic form-factor for the high-end and have Ravens fill in the b-cam and travelling rig role. A $5k drop would make me re-think that, for the advantages in accessories, same form factor, etc.

Maybe a solid iron model, 10k less. Still lighter than an Alexa.

People aren't paying a 15k premium for carbon externals.

Yeah... that seems fair from a customer perspective doesn't it? Maybe our official policy was different and there was probably a very sound, logical business reason for it to be as such, but if it was, then I guess it just changed. :)

It doesn't get any better than this. This is why I am such a fan of RED. Well, this and REDcode. :-)
