  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Titanium...

You should always support heavy lenses if you can. And yes.. it will come finished if you want.

Yeah I know, but some times you wish you could have so strong of a mount not to worry about it..

Great to know that we can get it finished.. I know I will, just need to figure out best option with you guys when time comes in deciding for SS or T. ;~)

I hate to be that guy, but why no ears on the mount? How are you supposed to safety the lens mount when you mount the camera on the front of a roller coaster for the Six Flags commercial?

for the 300mm, you will be fine. the 300 doesn't REQUIRE support... its actually lighter than the 25mm RPP. but it is long, so if your sticking matteboxes with a bunch of glass in them on the end, the leverage could be trouble if you hit it.

tape it up... thats what the big dogs do.

Its funny people used to actually drill holes in the Arri PL dog ear tabs and safety wire the mount to something.. We heard enough stories form AC's of those little tabs that are held in with little tiny screws rattle off and the safety wire then become useless that they just tape them up now, and the tabs actually get in the way of that.

Hey Jarred,

I'd like to point out that a lot of people begged for a higher quality mount a while ago, and here you come up with one. I have to assume, that because you designed Epic to handle back focus IN CAMERA instead of on the mount, you created a much simpler design requirement on the mounts themselves. This means mounts are easier to make, and you can make any type of mount that covers the sensor, and has demand.

Sometimes I wonder if people realize the true beauty of the Epic design is not what you CAN SEE but the potential for what's to come because of what we CANNOT SEE.

In simple "RED101" terms:

You ain't seen nothing yet.

Good work to you all.

Jay

Got it!! Even so I will mostly shoot with the lens free of any filters, when outdoors I will have to put the clip on with some ND's so will pay double attention in the handling of it.

Unobtanium would be unobtainable. Duh.

That didn't stop Oakley from using in their eyewear!

Love the titanium mount. Hope it fits into my budget...

Sorry man.. All focus is on Epic right now. We need to get Epic buttoned up and out the door, or there will be no Scarlet.
Jarred, Just go and work on this REDVOLUTION thing you started and dont give up. dont worry about us being a little boring...''Everything comes to he who waits". We forget this often...

Nice! Hope you were able to keep the price as alluring as the mount. It is gonna be 'spensive, but such a nice piece in a top shelf kit. And sexy. :-)

We actually did just that today... It is a very nice package, the Leica's fit like a glove.

And that's not worth a second (smaller) picture? Not cool, not cool at all Jarred. :hand:

Wonder if you could get a Big Bertha Driver and machine a hole in the head so you could put a lens on it and.... no, probably not.
Thats a pretty good assumption..

Less worry when running in and out of heated INT. Try to use different focal lenghts in each body and you get to keep one set of lenses inside, one outside and you don't have to worry about cracking front elements. You know what would be sick, but probably a bit weird of a request... a tiny and easily swapped cube inside the sensor housing with silica, the Pelican type that you can pop in the oven for 3hs and it is ready to go again. All you would need is a few pellets for such a small volume of air trapped inside.

Of course, it is most likely too much of a trouble to develop, too tight to fit in the XS brain that already houses a supercomputer, not enough of a market, and too late in the game. It would be nice though, since all of these upgrades and practices put together would prevent every single issue from working in extreme cold.

"The kind of cold humans shouldn't be in anyway. He he he..." - Paraphrased from Jarred

Roberto, you are one crazy dude. :)

You know what strikes me about the new mount is beside the fact it's really cool, RED has figured out what will make for nice presents to the owners of cameras. Maybe there needs to be a gift registry section on the RED store site, like those you see for engaged couples. Might even offer personalized engraving for a nominal fee.

Man, that is gorgeous... I am so stoked for my EPIC-X!

EDIT: @ SANJIN- I think what everybody meant by curious is ... HOW MUCH do the Leica's cost? :)

Tim,

I'm not Band Pro sales person (best contact Randy Wedick from Band Pro) but let you know that

the price for the set of 8 Leica Summilux-C lenses (18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm) is $178,000

(this price is from April 2010 and after that Euro dropped).

The image on the catalog presents actual size of Leica SC lens that is compared with the size of iPhone.

The lens mount and the most part of the lens shell or enclosure body made from titanium.

Lightweight 3.5-4.0 lbs (1.6 - 1.8 kg).

Jarred,

Very nice PL mount.
I dont see any flange distance adjustment...
Is this done by the inside of the camera ?

If so, will it be possible to use Canon FD lenses by using a FD to PL adaptor ?

Antoine

and that is exactly why they cost that much :) still worth every penny as they will last longer than I will :)

A rental house here in Portland has ordered a set, I will be a regular customer.
