  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Titanium...

Aluminum is just fine for some people. The aluminum mount on my RED one always served me well, but 90% of the time I was the one operating and swapping lenses anyway, as I rarely rented the camera out as a kit to just anyone.

That said, I'm still planning on titanium mounts for my Epic cameras.
 
Aluminum may work fine for most. But if not, it should be an easy upgrade for anyone who decides they need either the Stainless or Titanium. Anyone know if ordering the upgrades as OEM are the prices quoted, and if the outright purchase of one of the more expensive mounts is the same price as earlier quoted?
 
Yes, Raw Titanium costs 18x more than aluminum, and Machining Titanium is much more difficult.. its slower to cut and goes through a ton of bits.

If you go through more bits. Change to a better manufacturer of Insert bits for Titanium it is hard but not that difficult to mill, drill or cut.
 
If I ever go to the arctic, the Sahara, or the moon (maybe in my lifetime?), I will be getting one of these babies.

Not sure, but I think you're missing the point here. It's not about the weight it's about the expansion and durability of the metal. I don't have time to explain because I have to dash off, but I'm sure someone else will.

I know that Jeff is proclaiming that titanium is not good because of it's durability lol. Sorry don't meant the lol to be directed towards Jeff in anyway (I'm sure he has the best intentions), but I do find that discussion somewhat amusing. Especially since I'm sitting here with my very expensive titanium watch that has withstand all kind of weather (so far) and it's also water proof LOL.

True... but to get to the moon requires an amount of propulsion necessary to propel you and all your stuff at a velocity great enough to overcome the earth's gravitational pull. Thus, lighter weight titanium is a good thing.
