  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Internal Focus Motor Thread

Don't see the reason for developers to argue about what product is the best, the products will speak for themselves. People will review them and people will test them to their limits. The product that handles the best under most circumstances at the most decent price wins... that's how it always will be. If the OptiTron2 is the best professional choice for EF-lenses, both in price, specs and performance, it will sell. If not, then it will not.

For me personally, I just hope to see a working wireless lens control for EF lenses with low latency and a professional handling (it needs to have a similar feel to high end follow focus or else it will be hard to rent out).
If OptiTek can deliver that, that's good. At this time, I haven't seen anything better so I have good hopes it will be the number one choice.

Jacek, thanks for your answer and the video, that helps alot! I still got some questions open, sorry for being persistent:
- Whats the price for the OptiTron2?
- What else is needed for wireless operation? At what price?
- How is the OptiTron2 connected to the RED camera? How to power?
- Images (snapshots will do)

Cheers!
JD

Oh, forgot to ask, do you need the redlink bridge module to use the OptiTron2 or how does the wireless work? Because of the quickplate and redbrick I can't have the redlink module.

We don't use the bridge . We have our own matchbox sized wireless receiver that plugs into the control port.

Seems like good news all the time :D
Now we only need that video to see it all, how's it going?

Bump, any news on the OptiTron2?

Yeah, I'm not sure about this silence, all this talk and "video is coming any day now" and then total silence. Maybe they are on vacation I dunno.

I hope someone else's comes up with a hardware to do focusing ..I know Michael has fool control and it's a great product but we really need a physical follow focus knob solution. optitron 2 looks like it will be a winner but we can't rely all on just one product/manufacturer. I hope View factor, off Hollywood and even RED come up with their solutions real soon. It is really needed especially for gimbal setups.

I really wish the Tiltamax upcoming wireless follow focus would support the Canon mount... That would be the perfect system. Also curious to see if Red indeed comes up with a lite version of his THC (like focus only, without iris and zoom)... Hopefully some exciting announcements at IBC from some manufacturers ? I'm really getting desperate for a system that works as it should....

RED's mini THC (as showed during NAB) was super nice and had both focus and iris control (no lens has internal zoom motors anyway)... hope they'll release it or announce pricing / availability at IBC.

Here you go - the initial OptiTron2 video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsODB6CRQwc
it touches on everything a bit. We'll go into more details on
1. General setup and wired basic operation
2. Wireless operation
3. Performance
4. advanced features
5. Accessories
in the future videos we are shooting and editing now.
this one however should be enough to give you a good feel of what it is and does...

Thank you for the video, Jacek. I am looking forward to your beginning to ship production units.

What is the price for the wireless Optitron 2? I'm sure lots of people want to know.
