  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

Very clean Jeff, good to see your work.

Thanks for posting this John! This was definitely the adventure of a lifetime for me, such a surreal experience.
It took weeks of medical evaluations signed off by my own doctors, followed by daily exams from the NASA doctors, swim tests, scuba skills tests, and then of course all the background checks and red tape involved with the NASA clearance but holy hell what a pay off once they finally let me dive. Good news is I'm now certified to dive the NBL for another 3 years, in case the amazing opportunity comes up again some how.

With all the high tech gadgetry and equipment at the NBL the staff were all really impressed with the DRAGONs and Gates housings. That's saying something ;)

Scott Kelly launched into space today. 1 day down, 364 to go...

Cool place. Between 1997 and about 2007 they had seven of our custom cameras in there.

A few years ago at DEMA, a NASA representative was actively pursuing renting out the NBL out for outside projects - movies, training, etc.

Never found out how much they wanted to charge and don't know if it is still possible.

Hey Johnny! Hope all is well in Baja buddy!

This is the trailer for the longer form, on-going project "TIME: A Year In Space".
Not sure how much they may dip back into the underwater NBL footy along the way in that doc. but I'm so stoked to see some of my shots opening and closing the trailer. So dang cool, I'm humbled beyond my last bubbles...

This actually had nothing to do with the fact that we have DRAGONs in space right now:http://nateandsean.red.com/post/111887708153/red-epic-dragon-in-space
It is about Marco Grob, Shaul Schwarz, Jonathan Woods and Co. from TIME Magazine following this amazing story about Scott Kelly and his endeavor to spend a year in space...

Is anyone else looking at the pics of weapon thinking that it looks very similar in size to be able to fit in current housings? Huge bonus if it does!

Should fit, it's just a matter of whether the lens height is the same and if controls line up or whether the old control positions conflict with the new positions needed.

With the way the camera is mounted in our housings, I think it should be fairly straightforward to modify for weapon. Not to knock other products, but I think it would be much more difficult to do on some of the others - particularly the one that uses the side handle for the controls.

Since I suspect it will be months - probably after summer before upgrade weapons are delivered to the masses - any bubble blowers interested in an NAB special on housings for Scarlet/Epic with a guaranteed modification or trade-in component? If so give me a call or email to discuss.

Thanks very much Jeff, long time no hear, hope all is well in your hood, word on the street has it you are doing amazing things as PADI's top film guy!

Lots more where that came from, but all under wraps for the Cousteau movie, took some chances on lens selection for this particular shoot, but all worked out swimmingly. Sudanese Red Sea is Africa at it's very filmic underwater best! Not the safest place to go, but one of the most spectacular. The Bombay Gin helped to calm nerves, medicinally speaking :-)

Above grab is Zeiss Contax 60mm Makro, original German-manufactured lens procured at KEH, overhauled, declicked, custom lens gears manufactured and installed by Peter at RP Lens to work with Rouge, very pleased with the results. Dragon 6K, Low Light OLPF, subject lit up with 50,000 lumens, courtesy pair of Big Blue LED units, the video is so much more than we hoped for.

Cheers all,

T
