The most exciting news from nab 2015?
It's mole richardson's LED presnel 5K equivlant light.
It uses only 900watt, so you can simply shoot on your house even.
Price? $5500...
Joker 800 is about $10000 and it gives you around 2500-3000 equivalent watt and Arri's M18 is cost you around $15000 and giving you similar equivlant power to this crazy LED light.
This is shocking news for indie film makers, because usually we have an access of very limited amperage regarding house lighting.
If you had two of these, you could simply create 10,000 watt equivlant lighting on the set directly.
Wow... am I in a dream?

It's more equivalent to a 1400 watt HMI according to the video.

Yep, 5K tungsten and about 1.4K HMI, but I have a hunch it's even stronger than that HMI rating. I need to test it.

It's a boomer though:

Far from compact, but crazy powerful and low draw.

A little happy review here. I've been using these Mole LED Fresnels on the vast majority of my shoots for the last year.

This whole GS set was 400w and 200w Juniors, 150w Babies, and 100w Tweenies.

Love them because they "work" they same way the lights I started working with in this industry work and have extremely low draw. I use daylight only fixtures these days and this has really changed my stage/studio workflow.

I haven't used the Space Lights yet, but they have them now as well all using the same quantum dot LED technology.

Thank you Minu.

It will be nice to have [more widely available] alternative to AAdyntech.

How does this compare to a Hive light?

Hive is pretty much focusing on the Wasp Par at the moment. They draw about 276w and are about a 400w HMI equivalent. These got a bad rap early on because of an issue that occurred if you tilted the light up or down for too long it would effect the "spark". However, Hive updated their firmware and that hasn't been an issue for a while.

The light quality is very nice and flicker free. Don't have anything bad to say really. Wish they came in stronger bulb strengths, but you can use them on a frame with up to 6 Wasps at the moment. They do have a color temp dial.

Mole also has some new color temp dialing tech that was on the show floor as well. I'm still one of those crazy guys that uses gels, but for those who want that it's there.

Yeah it's awesome, I'd like to see one used on set.

Did you happen to catch what the CRI is for the purpose of more accurate color?

I used some of the 400W and 200W Juniors on a feature last year where we had a location that only had access to house power and I had to light a decent sized outdoor scene at night. Not only did they work great in this low power situation, but I love using them indoors, as they don't heat up and make the set too hot. The 5K equivalent sounds like something I need to try out.

They need to become a bit more compact though. I'm still waiting for a good old redhead or blondie with LEDs in equivalent power/heat reduction.

Awesome, just what I was looking for—thanks!

Personally i thought the Arri Skypanel was among the most interesting from a lighting standpoint.

Mine was Izotope's RX 4 and the Micro from BMD.

Ha! When I first looked at this I thought the light was about the size of an oil drum because of the forced perspective. Yeah - that WOULD be big!

I'd be interested to see how these took gels. I'd like to know more about color rendering. This kind of thing has the potential to jump a huge hurdle for Indie guys I think. I've been waiting.
