The right adaptor is the difference, as Scarlet is streamlined and Epic is ribbed.

He said 'ribbed' heh heh (Butthead voice)....

So if you want to have one that works on both, can you get the epic and still have it fit the scarlet, with the obvious minor gaps for the ribbed cutouts?

No, the ribs are not SWAT rails that you can clamp on to.

EDIT: I got this one wrong. I am told you can use the rib like a SWAT rail where you clamp on to it.

They are 1/4 20 - just bolt a swat rail on and you're good to go. - much more versatile.
