  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

By Sanjin's logic, anything with a lower picture quality than his RED ONE is unprofessional. And that includes a lot. Like all the stuff BBC shot on tube cams in the 70s and 80s for example...
Sanjin, it's so good to have you here! Just remind me again, what was better, the 5D or the Red One? Or was it the 7D? You don't tell us enough!:frown2:

How many of the shots in the video were actually shot in Lebanon ? i just reconize one and the rest are shot in Egypt ... no?

At first a big bravo for your work...!

I can't keep it low... the look on the eyes of these children... they are so sad but so happy on the same time... all westerners must push a peace keep in Palestine, Lebanon and to all Arab region and put an end to this misery, solve the problem once and for all, we owe that to our children... these eyes was like looking my child's eyes... I thing all the children of the world have to be happy... is our generation responsibility...! we must never allow a Gaza attack again, or any other attack... we have to solve this... and let them have a chance in happiness and joy... I can't watching children playing in a bombed playground any more... I don't care if they are Arabs, Israelis, Somalis or Serbs... they are children as our children... guys when tonight you go home from work, look your children in there eyes and tell me if you see something different apart form childish innocence and a great need to play... we have to remove the sadness from these children's eyes...

Evangelos, i understand the sympathy u have with these children , i wish more people thought this way, but this video has nothing to do with the war in Ghaza... Egypt is in peace with Israel, these are probably poor kids living in deserted areas in Egypt ... Everybody for sure deserves to live in peace , children and adults , but i guess thats impossible my friend because of the nature of human beings... and the oldest trick in the world , divide conquer...
 
Evangelos that is pretty much how I felt when watching Khaled's piece.
I've been fortunate enough to have travelled a fair bit in the middle
east and was absolutely smitten by the energy of the people there.
The kids, in spite of many hardships, were extremely positive and inquisitive-
and very smart.
No matter where we went, from a palace, to a tent near the empty quarter,
we were greeted with the utmost respect and friendship.

I think it was 1972, I was in the merchant marines at the time,
and our ship had to flee dockside to make an unscheduled stop in Famagusta.
Sally, peace isn't impossible, and the nature of human beings can be changed.
If peace is attainable on the local level, and history tells us that it surely is,
then it is attainable on the universal level.
 
Michael, I downloaded the Magic Lantern Firmware to help with the auto audio levels. My Sennheiser wireless lavs went into a Shure FP33 3-Channel Stereo Mixer and out to the 5d with a XLR to 1/8 adapter.

Thanks Bill for ur kind words, Peace can be achieved and thats what alot of people including myself fight for everyday by educating our brain and soul . what makes it hard is the games , those who are in power play to maintain a division between people caused by race, religion or skin color ... also media who are turning their back on truth and logic ... running after the $$$ ...Ignorance is our enemy and there are alot of ignorance in this world unfortunately my city faced alot of destruction but its still alive because alot of people have faith , faith in what humanity can achieve...I guess in this forum we all are inspired by the beauty of nature , emotions and the power of the human mind , thats why we try to capture it so other people can see beautifully through our eyes . Im a big believer in small changes and i hope i can make a small change through a lens ...

p.s. sorry Khalid for invading ur thread with politics , Loved ur footage and thanks for posting the timecodes :)

True, although I noticed quite a few things where the cameras limitations were pushed (some of which may have been further altered by Vimeo)...

  • Rolling shutter on the spinning swings
  • aliasing on telephone wires or horizontals on some of the wide rooftop shots
  • powerful sunlight reflections from puddles on the ground

...but I didn't care. I only saw those things because I went back and looked for them with a lot of pauses to study the image. That was my 'technical viewing' to gain knowledge about the camera hardware, but none of it disturbed me the first time when I was watching the subject matter instead of the camera performance.

Of course, as we have discussed before, most people will will watch anything as long as the content of the image is interesting and emotionally engaging. And I appreciate that we are seeing a selection of especially good shots for that exact purpose.

But overall the camera is delivering very well...we can easily imagine how much work it is to shoot in such conditions, and the extra challenges that shooting with real film would involve (heat, stuff to carry, size of the camera...). It's fantastic work in every way. I particularly liked the grading too. Khalid, I hope your documentary is a great success.
