  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Steadicam Air

I'm wanting to use the Steadicam Air mostly with a 5D Mark IV + Cage or with a Canon C200 without a rig and with heaviest lens being a 70-200mm "L" II . I can't see the weight being more than 10-12lbs. I should probably be looking at the Steadicam 15 over the 25 right?

Definitely wait for the 15 then.

I love the functionality of my air 25, but I’ve been running into some issues with the pneumatic lift. It seems like maybe it has some sensitivity to temperature change. I’ve run into scenarios where it would not expand and also scenarios where it would not contract. When left to climatize, it begins to work again as normal. It’s been a bit of a bummer since the shoots i’ve been testing it on have been unpredictable doc situations when I need to be light and quick. Still glad to have it in my kit but hoping the next version will be a bit more reliable. Shoots so far have been in cold and snowy nyc and Germany in the extreme cold.

I promise you Phil that what you're looking for is on its way. Both Jarred and I designed the Air. It comes from the genius of Jarred Land and my small brain. I'm glad you like it. We've been using it on the television show SWAT for 6 moths without issue. Call me anytime to discuss what I've learned about the Air. It is a game changer with a whole lot more to come. 000-000-000 Don't buy a head yet because something more special is on the way. Best, Francis p.s. it goes on line at 9:00a tomorrow morning

I've been very curious since you mentioned a head solution. Do you have any further information?

Matt

Soon Matthew. I promise there will soon be a very cool super lightweight module, that can handle anywhere from 10-40 lb that will work with the Steadicam Air. It's a painful process to get products out into the market. Jarred and I invented the Air in 2015. It's taken that long to bring it to the market. It's been an education for me because I'm a cinematographer not a manufacture. Stay in touch with mc4.la and you'll hear about two very cool products that will be very useful tools for all of us. Thanks, Francis

hello,

quick note on the display one that is at bh
I have been there 2-3 times in the last months and the one on display is unfortunately broken -- if you pay for having one that is displayed, maybe push them to have a working unit there

by the way,
just to avoid confusion I have no intention of implying anything about the product itself

I am very interested in it for myself actually, just each time I went there and wanted in the same time to test it out, it was the same unit on display (when they had one)

Hi Francis, any word yet when we can expect the Steadicam Air 15 to be released?

Hi Francis. I heard talk about a monopod head that was being developed to go with the steadicam Air. Is this something being developed?

as m4c.la unfortunately did't offer shipping to Europe in the shop I ordered the 25 from CVP in UK.

If I lift the foot from the pedal the gas pole section isn't locked but bounces 2 - 3 inches up and down if you lean on it? It feels more like a damped spring. Is that like it should be? Thanks for help
